Endive's Tasteful Foods

Rosemary bounded up the steps and rang the doorbell.

"Hold on, I'll be right there!" somebody bellowed. Rosemary took a step back from the door. Finally, the door was opened, and a very large woman stood before her.

"Ahhh… You must be here for the 'job.' Come on in, dear." She said. Rosemary stepped in and took a shaky breath.

"Hehe… You must be Miss Endive, right?" Rosemary asked. She was shy, and talking to a massive woman like Endive was making her nervous.

"Yes, of course I am." Miss Endive smiled. "And you are…?"

"M-my names Rosemary, and I'm here for the job-thingy," she said. Rosemary held up a flyer with elegant print. Surveillance needed, it read. Will be paid graciously.

Miss Endive nodded. "Let me explain. My rival, Mung Daal…" she spat out with disgust, "has had more business than me for over a month now! I demandto know what he could possibly be doing! Maybe he laced his food with some kind of addictive poison…" she began mumbling to herself.

"Or maybe, you know, your food's just… bad?" Rosemary suggested, earning a glare from Endive.

"As I was saying, I want you to find out why his business is booming while mine is, well…" she gestured to the empty front room.

"How do I get close enough without them becoming suspicious?" she asked.

"Huh? Eh, act as young volunteer. I'm sure Mung will take all the free help he can get," Miss Endive scoffed. Rosemary nodded, and set off to find Mung Daal's Catering company.

She took a left, and looked up at the building before her. Not as sophisticated as Endive's, but it had much more character. She opened the door.

"Hello? Um…I-" she started.

"Take a number and vait" said a shrill woman at the counter.

"No, no, I wa-" she began again.

"I said take a number and vait!" Rosemary quickly grabbed a number ticket and sat down. After an awkward silence passed, the woman asked, "So, sveetie, vhat vould you like?"

"I, um… actually, I'd like a job?" It was more of a question than a statement. The woman adjusted her glasses and checked the menu.

"I don't think we serve those here…"

"Er, no, I mean, I'd like to volunteer here. As a worker," Rosemary said slowly.

"Vhy didn't you say so!" she said cheerfully. "Mung! Get in here! We have a new worker!" she shouted.
