Just my initial reaction to tonight's episode. Also, if anything happens to Frankie, I'm not above seriously maiming the writers.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
"Jane," Her voice was shaky and tired as she squeezed the detective's hand, "Jane, can you hear me?"
Her throat was painfully dry and there was a dull ache boaring it's way through her gut until she felt like she was going to explode into a thousand little pieces. Her brain was foggy as she tried to piece together the puzzle as to how she ended up in this predicament, "F-Frankie..."
"He's okay," Maura Isles squeezed her best friend's hand as she fought the tears that wanted to fall, looking at the tile floor of the hospital room instead of looking her best friend in the eye, "They were able to get him to the hospital on time. He's just down the hall – your parents and brother are with him."
"Tom-" She coughed and Maura placed the straw against her lips, "Tommy is here?"
She nodded and brushed the sickly sweat hair from Jane's face and rubbed her thumb against her temple, "He wasn't going to come home, but you were all over the news and he came running as soon as he found out his big sister was in hurt."
"Huh," Jane sighed and tried to get her thoughts to align, the pain medicine threatening to pull her from consciousness once again, "they should be worried about Frankie way more than me."
Maura fought the urge to growl and rested her forehead against Jane's, "Frankie didn't shoot himself in the abdomen to kill a crazed drug lord."
She tried to ignore the fear she saw in Maura's eyes and the guilt building in the pit of her gut, "What's the damage doc?"
"They had to remove your gall bladder and repair your liver." She swiped blindly at her tears, "What were you thinking, Jane? You could have died!"
"Maura, don't think like that," Her hand turned and their fingers interlaced, "I'm alive aren't I?"
"You could have died," Her head dropped and tears fell more painfully that bullets against the off-green blanket that covered Jane's body, "Jane, you could have died and then what? I'd have nobody.."
"Maur-" She breathed and her hand reached up to wipe the tears from the doctor's face, "I'm not dead, I'm right here. I'm right here with you."
"I know," She sniffled, "I'm sorry."
"I didn't do it to hurt anybody," Jane breathed and rubbed her thumb gently over the apple of Maura's cheek, "I did it... because he's my brother..." Her voice broke and tears threatened to fall, "He's my baby brother and he's jumped in front of guns for me my entire life. He's put his life at risk for me more than once... but that last time... He'd do it for me. I had to do it for him."
"You don't mess with family," Maura paraphrased the words that Detective Korsak had told her when her birth father killed the man who had murdered her half brother, "No one messes with Jane Rizzoli's family."
"Exactly," Jane smiled and let out a breathy chuckle, "but damn this hurts. Frankie owes me a really good birthday present for that one."
"I'm sure he'll be more than willing."
Jane smiled and interlaced her fingers with Maura's left hand, "Hey, Maura?"
"Yeah," She perked up, "need more pain meds?"
"Well, yeah, but no." Jane smiled, "Can you see about taking me to see Frankie before I bust out of here and go see him myself."
"Jane... I'll see what I can do."
