He stood before the well, breathing heavily. Slowly, the slightest smile invaded his lips. He was never one to show pride, but he was the smile's prisoner. He had just taken on- and defeated- himself.
"I'm very proud of you," said a deep feminine voice. He turned, subconsciously beaming. He was tired, though. Who'd've thought he would put up such a fight? Much cheering ensued.
"Thank you," he replied, sheathing his sword.
"Now, follow me," commanded the woman. Her voice was fierce and militant.
"Y-yes, of course!" sputtered the young man. "Where are we going?"
She turned to him and smile a knowing smile. "I've got a reward for you, but I'm not sure you'll like it."
