Valjean's Pov
Jean Valjean was not a foolish man. He had known that something was wrong with Cosette, or rather that she was hiding something from him. The man was old, but he wasn't blind.
Valjean noticed the way Cosette always excused herself after dinnertime, promptly at seven everyday responding that she was tired and so she retired to her room. Valjean had grown suspicious, but he trusted his daughter and so he had no reason to fear that she was doing anything dishonest or to deliberately defy him and so he brushed his worries aside.
But one evening his curiosity got to the better of him and he after followed Cossette, wanting to see where she had always gone out to.
Being an ex convict came in handy sometimes as he swiftly and silently followed his daughter. He was not so surprised to see her enter the garden, he knew she wasn't returning to her room anyhow.
But he had not expected to see a boy there.
He watched in astonishment as Cosette and the boy ran up to each other and embraced with a kiss. Valjean's fists clenched in anger as he saw the two profess there love for one another.
Veljean fought every urge he had to tear the young couple apart.
He couldn't tolerate the way Cosette talked the the boy, all the affection and warmth in her voice. It reminded him of the conversations Fantine and Veljean once had a very long time ago. But it wasn't possible for his daughter to be in love. She was just a child and didn't know what the word love meant.
And so Veljean contemplated on what he should do.
Would he make his presence known? Storm over to Cosette and demand that she never see the boy again. Forbidding her from seeing the young man would not end well, Cosette was stubborn and would most likely disregard his orders.
No doubt the two of them would find someway to continue their affair.
And so Veljean reluctantly turned to his second option; go back inside, and pretend as if he had never saw anything. He left the garden as quietly as he could and then retired to his room, busying himself with a book to pass time.
Although the book did little to distract him from the fact that his daughter had lied to him, sneaking off at night to go see some boy.
He was losing Cosette and there was nothing he could do about it.
AWWW POOR VELJEAN, I FEEL BAD FOR HIM ANYWAY I'M PROBABLY GOING TO WRITE MORE, MAYBE WHEN JEAN FINDS MARIUS IN THE BARRICADES OR WHEN COSETTE SEE'S THAT HER DAD IS ABOUT TO DIE, SOOO MANY POSSIBILITY'S LOL ANYWAY PLZ REVIEW IF YOU WANT TO READ MORE!
