Just Because I Loved You
A moment passed between life and death, a heartbeat of sensation forever engraved upon the soul. Cells shivered to life with a scream of attention, life pounding in veins drenched from blue to red. Air expanded in a chest coiling with new life and she could only think:
"Just because I loved you,"
She whispers.
He listened and thought, blood pounding in his heart. There was a time when life was sweet and new, fresh for all to believe in. Cryptic it grew and twisted, tearing into small bits and pieces as he struggled just to breathe one final word.
"Just because I loved you,"
He breathes.
Life dripped away from them that year to leave behind one cast into the sea of their legacy. He struggled every day to make peace with their memories and their lasting legacy. He knew on so many levels they forgave him of his sins.
One to whom he forgot his promise.
One to whom he could not love in return.
He breathed and lived with the memories as much as he did with her.
The one he lived for, the memory he could not forget, the he loved.
There was never a moment when his heart was able to forget, though he did lose sight of the others.
In the end, he did it for her.
He remembered his friend. Zack Fair, Soldier First Class. The man he was not.
He remembered his almost lover. Aerith Gainsborough, the last Cetra. The woman he couldn't love.
He never forgot her. Tifa Lockhart, the girl next door, the martial artist, the lover, the damsel, and the one who saved him. The woman he lived for.
He remembered that he was Cloud Strife.
He would save the world and come home from deliveries to be with them.
Their family.
The son and daughter that was not theirs.
To the wife in all but name.
To the broken family held together by fragile threads of memory, because in the end they were the most important.
"Because I love you." he would whisper in the darkness of night. When he was alone with Fenrir or the fusion swords or when he stood in the glimmering depths of the pool that brought him back to them.
In the end it was all because he loved them.
Perhaps the picture wasn't perfect and they weren't exactly whole, but they did have love for one another.
It was more then enough.
