This idea has been bugging me for a while, so I decided to just write it. It was gong to be longer, but there's only so much you can do with this topic.
After Bella comes back from Phoenix with the broken leg, Alice helped her when she needed to shower, which was why Charlie loved her so much. I was wondering what that first conversation might have gone like...
"Is there anything I can get you, Bells? Anything at all?" Charlie asked. His attempts were futile as he tried to help Edward and I get Bella into the house.
"You know what I really need?" Bella asked. "I need a shower. How long has it been since I've had a nice, hot shower?"
"Oh, well, are you going to be okay in the shower? You can only stand on the one leg and all…" Charlie trailed off. He was worried that Bella was going to need his help to stay balanced, but he didn't want to take the chance that she would fall—which was inevitable for Bella on only one leg.
"I think I'll be okay, Dad." Anyone could tell that she was lying.
Edward and I easily got her onto the couch; either of us could've carried her effortlessly, but we had to keep up the charade for Charlie. I sat down next to her with Charlie on her other side and Edward in the chair across from the sofa.
A vision abruptly came to me.
Bella was trying to get into the shower. The water was running, making the bottom of the tub slick. She tried to grab onto the edge of the tub and hop over, but she ended up falling and banging her head on the edge of the tub.
I couldn't just let this happen. This meant that Charlie was not planning on helping her, or at least that Bella was going to somehow convince him that she didn't need assistance. I knew they would both be embarrassed, but this was getting ridiculous.
"I'll help her, Charlie," I offered brightly, giving him a smile. I could see him practically melting under my gaze.
"Would you, Alice? That would be great, if you don't mind," Charlie said. We could all tell that he was relieved and as he accepted my offer I heard Bella sigh in relief.
"Always glad to be of assistance."
