It's Bat Appreciation Month and Apple Month, so...I wanted to write something for the two.
"I can't reach 'em, Nana!" Cooro's arm is extended upwards above his head, fingers wiggling in a futile attempt to snatch the plump red apple dangling from a branch just too high for him. His head is tipped back to see just how pitifully close he is, determined brown eyes focused on his fingertips as they graze the bottom of the apple.
Nana raises her eyebrows and turns around to look at him. Her fingers are busy with a needle and thread as she works to make another dress, but she halts in her work when she begins to speak to her dark-haired friend. "You have wings," she insists bluntly, cheerfully. "Use them."
"Well, normal people couldn't use them to gather apples. I just want to try it." Cooro does a little jump, tapping against the apple a little bit before he lands and groans.
"I thought you liked being unique," Nana says, confusion written on her face. "You're always so proud of your wings, so why're you trying to be different?"
Cooro tips his head to on side in consideration of her words, and then he allows his wings to grow - extending from his back and reaching high into the air. They flap a couple of times, stirring the grass around them and causing Nana's hair to flutter slightly in the wind, before Cooro uses them to help him into the air to grasp the apple.
"See? You could've done that from the beginning and not wasted your time," Nana says, turning back to her work.
"I just wanted to see what it was like." Cooro shrugs carelessly and bounds over to her side to plop down next to her. Nana hadn't thought of the fact that he was born with his +Anima, that he doesn't know what she knows about being without it. He bites into the apple and sighs around the mouthful. "Being normal sucks."
