Disclaimer: I don't own One Piece or any of its characters.

I once saw a format like this before and found that I really liked it. So, I decided to give it a shot. Apologies ahead of time in case I butcher this.

Just Breathe

Drowning.

I think I'm -

- choking, choking, choking -

It hurts. It hurts so much. There was nothing but pain. So much of it. I am being buffet by the pressing waves, one after another. Going further down, down to the murky depths. Down to my death.

- can't breathe, can't think -

It's burning now. My lungs. Burning like it is on fire when I know it's not. My skin too. It's ignited by this crushing unknown force. Searing. I can't - I know I can't - I - I don't know anymore -

- don't know anything at all -

I can't do this by myself. Weakness grabs me, choking me. Lungs starved of air. Heart flutters and pulses. Eyes wildly moving and pleading. Begging -

- please help - help - won't someone! - me - help me - someone answer me! - please (please) help me -

It's so faraway. The light. Hanging above me. Lazily. I could almost touch it.

But my arms sink. I sink. My reach too short. Clothes too heavy. Dragging down their wearer.

- hope is gone, gone, gone -

No longer can I resist the chilling temptations of death. I give one final push of life still feebly clinging in me.

And I'm -

- silence -

Suddenly, I inhale. A lungful of blissful air entered. Before my chest constricts painfully and I choke, cough, splutter. I exhale.

There was a voice by my ear, a gruff sound, calling me to wake up. A large hand touches my cold, wet cheek. So warm ...

- wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up -

I wake up.

Above me, was an unforgettable face. One that looked so alien and so familiar. Green eyes searchingly gaze into mine.

" Chopper?"

The face of my savior greeted me. His hair drips of water. He gives himself a shake and droplets spray everywhere. A few land on my nose and I sneeze.

I inhale greedily again before exhaling.

And I realize one thing.

I am alive.
