"Dammit!" Severus cursed under his breath. From a distance, he found a first year Gryffindor mixing the wrong amount of ingredients, causing an explosion…

"What in Merlin's grave?" Severus cursed again. From across the room, two fifth year Hufflepuffs accidentally dropped a potion that they were brewing, turning one of them an awful shade of orange and the other a putrid shade of green…

"Please murder me now, Merlin!" Severus sighed, as he entered the Great Hall and found his Slytherins in a shouting and hexing match with the Gryffindors…

Severus fell back in his chair, drink in hand. Earlier that day, Hermione had told him that she would be having detention with a few Slytherins and Gryffindors. She also told him that Leviathan and Keenan would be at the Potters for the night. That only left Severus and…

"Daddy?"

Severus looked to find his five- year- old daughter, Deidre, standing in front of him, holding her stuffed snake. Severus sat his glass down and took his daughter into his arms. He began to cradle the little girl.

"You don't look happy, Daddy. What's wrong?"

Severus looked into his daughter's dark brown eyes. She was an exact replica of Hermione, except that she had black hair.

"Just kids being kids, I guess, Deidre," he replied. Then, Deidre threw her snake into Severus' face, making him laugh a little.

"Snakey will bite those mean kids for you, Daddy!"

"Oh, really?"

Deidre nodded.

"Well, I believe that Snakey should stay with you, dear. You need more protection from the mean kids than I do."

Suddenly, Severus felt child- sized arms wrap around his neck. When Deidre let go, Severus looked at her.

"What was that for, angel?"

"I love you, Daddy!"

Severus hugged her.

"I love you as well, angel."
