She watched as blood splattered on the walls of her home, her mother fell to her knees before crumpling to the floor.

"Kagome, run" she said before the light left her eyes. Tears made white streaks on her red stained face. The sounds of dying screams surrounding Kagome as her clan was slaughtered just outside her home. Her mother's blood flowed like a river, reflecting the sword that had slain her. It shined in the light of the full moon. Dark drips fell from the sharp point to create ripples in the puddle below. The blood of some many of her people stained that blade. She grabbed the sides of her head, gripping her hair and squeezed her eyes shut, screaming at the top her lungs.

Kagome bolted upright in her bed. The feeling of fresh sweat making her feel sticky. She grimaced and stripped herself of her night wear and the bed of its sheets and placed them in the washer. She walked to the bathroom and stepped into the shower, letting the warm water give her a fresh feeling, washing away the painful memories. She finished quickly and set about her daily routine with the thoughts of the day ahead. After a while she wandered to the kitchen to make breakfast. She quickly got lost in thought, the haziness from sleep not quite leaving her yet. Rising to her feet, she walked to the sink and placed her utensils from her breakfast inside. She walked to the door and sat down on the stairs, slipping on her black ninja sandals. She stood and tapped the tips on the ground before leaving her quiet house and starting her short walk to the academy. As she walked through the streets, her attention was pulled in numerous directions. A mother and her small child walking down the road in the opposite direction, smiling happily and talking about the plans for the day. Even deep in thought she could never miss the screech of voices slowly rising in volume as they got closer.

"I'm going to beat you, Ino-pig!"

"Hah not in your life, bill-board brow!"

She pushed off the ground concentrating chakra to the soles of her feet, a small lesson she learned from an old friend she met when she was traveling, and landed softly on the roof, just barely avoiding the rampage of pink and blonde. She shook her head at the ridiculous rivalry of the two fan girls. She briefly wondered what started it, seeing as how she had only recently entered the academy. She was reluctant to go to school and only relented because it is required to become a shinobi.

"Well, might as well" she mumbled to herself before she crouched down into her sprinting stance and at lightning speed she passed pinky and blondey on the roof tops. She jumped onto one of the academy's window sills and knocked on it. The girl looked behind her to the two maniacs that were some distance behind her and waited patiently for a couple seconds until a stoic raven haired boy opened the window. He smirked and offered his hand to help her get down. She took it and sat down next to him while he closed the window. This had been their normal routine for a couple months now and they had developed into silent best friends and recently became an item. He was the only boy in her class that wasn't a fan-boy, besides Shikamaru, Choji, and Shino. These four boys were the only boys that were her friends, at least in their age group.

The barrage of pink and blonde slammed open the classroom door almost cracking the frame and screamed "FIIIRST"

"Hah I beat you, Sakura. Your getting slower." Ino gasped in between breaths.

"Yeah right, my toe was at least a tenth of an inch infront of yours." She wheezed.

"In your dreams, you must be delusional" she retorted quickly. Kagome blocked the rest out knowing they would be at it for a while. She closed her eyes for a second, trying to catch up on some much needed rest. Though her calm didn't last long as her ears picked up the pathetic attempt Sakura made to sit next to Sasuke ignoring her existence as if she wasn't already sitting there.

"H-hi S-Sasuke-kun, Can I sit here?" She asked, blushing slightly with her hands clasped in front of her in what she probably thought was a "cute" way.

Sasuke nudged her elbow as sign to answer her for him. She sighed reluctantly and whispered,

"Do I have to?" He shrugged.

"Fine, let's just ignore her then."

"Umm, I'm right here you know." She said a tick of annoyance lacing her voice. Her attention was quickly drawn away by an obnoxious girl and her amazing knack for picking fights, this one with Bubblegum. They both sighed in relief, and Naruto hopped onto the desk crouching to get eye level with sasuke and just stared at him. Kagome noticed the conversation happening directly behind naruto and the sporadic arm move moments the boy was using to tell his story. Kagome calmly placed her hand on Naruto's forehead as the kid behind him hit him with his elbow. Her hand held him in place instead of letting him fall forward into sasuke. Naruto gave her questioning glance that turned to confusion when he felt the kid behind him bump him. Realization dawned his face as he did the math and enveloped her in a tight embrace repeating how happy he was that he didn't kiss the "stupid-teme". She gave an uncomfortable smile and tapped his back. He released her and she sat back into her seat, naruto sitting beside her and Sasuke just mumbled a quick thank you. She bumped his shoulder with hers.

"You're welcome, but you owe me one." She said with a teasing smile. He just shot her a mischievous smirk before turning back facing the front of the class as Iruka walked in.

"Congratulations to you all on passing. I hope you all will be successful in the future with your new sensei and teammates. I will now announce the teams. She subconsciously took Sasuke's hand under the desk and he gave her hand a gentle squeeze of comfort and held it. The class was divided into three man teams, and Kagome's anxiety rose with every name called until finally,

"Team 7; Sasuke Uchiha" Sasuke didn't blink as her hand tightened on his.

"Sakura Haruno" Sakura screamed in joy, the piercing sound causing Kagome to wince, and Sasuke squeezed her hand.

"Naruto Uzumaki" this time he jumped for joy as Sakura slumped in her chair.

"And Kagome Taisho" They both gave a relieved sigh that there was at least one competent person in their team. Sakura suddenly jumped up declaring herself the higher konoichi and demanding to know why Kagome should be put on her team with her Sasuke-kun. Kagome gave an unladylike snort and Sakura's outburst was quickly followed by Naruto shooting up and declaring "Sasuke-teme" should be on a loser team instead of with his 'greatness'.

"Sakura, you had mediocre konoichi scores and Naruto you had the worst scores over all" Iruka stated blankly, like this was all known information. Kagome covered a snicker with her hand as the whole room erupted in laughter. Both students blushed with heated embarrassment and quickly sat back in their seats.

"To balance the teams I put the best with the worst." He finished and Kagome pondered it for a moment.

"That makes sense but why must it be pinky?" She thought to herself. She soon realized they were still holding hands and blushed a little bit but didn't let go, besides it's normal to hold your boyfriend's hand. They continued to wait patiently as Iruka finished listing off the members of each team.

"Team 8 will consist of Kiba Inuzuka, Hinata Hyuuga, and Shino Aburame" Kagome let out a sigh of relief, Hinata was one of the few girls she enjoyed the company of. She was glad that she was placed on a team free of fanboys.

"Team ten: Shikamaru Nara, Ino Yamanaka" I heard Shikamaru in the back

"Hah, what was that about hating to be on a team with me?"

"And Choji Akamichi" Ino slammed her head on the desk in an obvious attempt to make the bad thoughts go away. Kagome gave her a glance of sympathy, she was overreacting of course, considering, Choji was nice and Shikamaru was a good friend.

"You will wait in separate classrooms for your new jonin sensei. Now meet back at your assigned classrooms in 1 hour. Dismissed." Iruka finished and Sasuke swished out of the room in a flash. Kagome huffed in irritation and walked out of the classroom with a large group of boys following after her. She sighed and preformed a series of hand signs and smoke engulfed her giving her time to hide in the tree above them. The boys dispersed and she made a quick dash to the open window of Sasuke's secret get away.

"That teme" she mumbled, increasing her pace.

"Is that what you think of me?" Sasuke said wrapping his arms around her waist as She entered the small room. It was a simple barren room with only a large propped up window and a door leading to the rest of the building that she never bothered to explore. She laughed as he twirled her around the room. The soft sound of joy echoing in the small space. She wrapped her arms around his neck and held on tight. They slowed down and stood there for a seconds until she giggled and told him to put her down. He reluctantly complied and set her on her feet bending down slightly to compensate for her short stature.

She smiled a little at the awkward situation, and pulled out their lunches that she had prepared that morning and they started eating.

"I'm really happy you're on my team" She commented to fill the silence, picking up her rice ball and taking a small bite out of it.

"Me too." He said leaning against the window frame. She paused mid bite and threw a kunai to the stand holding up the window, knocking it out of place and forcing Sasuke to dodge.

Sasuke's complaint was cut short by the loud thud against the closed window and a muffled, pained groan on the other side.

"Naruto, what is wrong with you?" She asked in a calm yet disappointed tone, lifting the window and putting the support back in place.

"Huh? Oh hi, umm Kagome-chan… I can explain." He stuttered nervously.

"Yes well, Naruto if you're gay then that's fine but, your going to have to go through me to get to Sasuke." She said with a void expression. Naruto visibly paled and turned three different shades of red.

"God no! I'm not gay! I was going to tie him up then go talk to Sakura-chan as him, that's all!" he panicked, shouting his protest in my face. She shoved his face back nearly pushing him off the side of the building, considering he was holding onto the window sill, standing on the overhang.

"Not so close, you're very loud when you panic. I was only joking." She explained pressing her two fingers to her opposite ear, trying to block out his broadcasting voice.

"How was I supposed to know you were joking? You had such an expressionless face!" He pointed out at a much lower volume.

"Sasuke, go talk to Sakura would you?" She asked looking back at the boy who now wore a cringed face.

"Must I?" He asked. His eye practically begging her to reconsider.

"Help out a fellow teammate." She reasoned. He sighed and nodded his acceptance.

"Really? Thanks guys I appreciate it!" Naruto smiled. Kagome let out a breath from dealing with his rapid mood swings.

"Now you are free of your debt, thanks, darling" she mocked teasingly.

"You're welcome" he said, down cast at his inevitable fate. She smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck, pecking his cheek.

"It's almost time to head back. Wanna race?" She suggested.

"you're on" he said dropping to a ready stance.

"Loser gets to make lunch tomorrow!" He said. She laughed.

"Ready..GO" she said, sprinting out the window throwing a kunai behind her wrapped in a bomb tag. Sasuke grabbed it and threw it back at her. She laughed and caught it, quickly extinguishing the bomb tag and sprinting off the next building. She took her time, letting him win, knowing she could easily beat him if she really tried. She skidded to a stop at the academy door and gave out a light chuckle when she saw Sasuke waiting on the inside. He smirked and waited as she crouched down and quickly leapt up the side of the building and into the classroom.

"Cheater." She said, sticking her tongue out at him.

"Never" he mocked and they sat down to wait for their new sensei.
