Challenge: 20 minute Drabble Challenge

Challenger:AllAKnowIsADoorIntoTheDark

Prompt: Attack

Pairing: Sirius/Bellatrix (sort of)

He didn't feel a thing. It all happened so fast. One minute he was shouting curses and taunting Bellatrix the next moment he was falling back...back...back into the darkness, into the eternal abyss that the Veil covers; to join the voices whispering ... To be free.

No more hiding out in a musky old house that haunted his worst nightmares, no more worrying about Harry, no more restrictions.

He was free.

Never in a million years did Sirius ever think he could feel anything but hatred for his dear cousin Bellatrix. It was some cruel twist of fate that brought him to this moment.

One minute he was ducking the brilliant red jet of light that she sent his way. The next he was laughing.

"Come on, you can do better than that!" He had yelled, taunting her enjoying the looking of pure hatred and fury that spread across her deranged face like a vile, evil poison seeping into her bloodstream taking her over piece by peace.

Then there was nothing but fear and surprise...his overconfidence had been his greatest mistake as another jet of light hit his chest. He took an age to fall, btu when he did it was graceful as always. Nothing Sirius Black did wasn't graceful or elegant in some way.

He didn't fully want to die. Merlin he was barely 36. He wanted to be free. That was why he was surprised. Surprised that death was the unconventional answer to his problems, surprised that he had actually allowed dear, dear Bella to get the best of him.

Surprised at the guilt he was feeling. He was free, shouldn't he be happy? He was joining Lily and James, his best friends. Life would be better on the other side. Harry didn't need him anymore. So why did he feel guilty?

He shook those thoughts put of his head...after an eternity of falling he had landed behind the veil and he knew, in that moment, that even though he was dead it was for the better.
Better to die fighting valiantly than to be in hiding like a coward. Something was bound to happen eventually, he couldn't stay hidden forever.

Suddenly he felt like there was a huge weight lifted off his shoulders and he once again laughed at the irony of being grateful to Bellatrix Black. He told himself he was free, and this time, he believed it.

He smiled to himself. He, Sirius Black the blood traitor, owed Bellatrix Black.

He was free.
