Pain

He couldn't breathe; air refused to move past his nostrils.

He couldn't see; there wasn't any light left for him anymore.

He couldn't hear; that voice from his childhood was gone forever, and it wasn't coming back.

He couldn't speak; all that left his throat was that scream of raw grief.

He couldn't feel; nothing got past him except for blinding pain that penetrated every cell of his body and left him almost paralyzed, somewhere between this world and the next.

He'd just lost the only person he had left. And it was the worst kind of pain he'd known.
