The elemental moved through the dirty streets of Roarhaven, his boots clicking lightly as he walked. A mass of dark clouds loomed overhead, threatening him with rain.
Really, it was the last place he wanted to be, but he didn't have much choice. He was meant to meet someone at the local pub, not that it sounded like fun. And he was early.
With a sigh, he turned into one of the alleyways and began to make his way towards the pub.
Even if he wasn't a criminal, he didn't need... the eyes that were surely watching him. He had business to do, so he kept to the shadows and alleys.
He was something of a mercenary, an unusual job for someone his age. But as he hadn't experienced the Surge yet, he was versatile in his magic. So he took the money other sorcerers gave him, in return for doing work for them.
It was usually simple jobs, things that only took him a few hours. The money wasn't much, but it was enough to help him get by.
He finally reached a dead end, a solid wall looming above him by several feet. He looked almost bored as he raised his hand up in the air.
The air around him shifted and turned as it wrapped around him, lifting him up easily and depositing him lightly on the other side of the wall. He supposed that magic did have its uses, even if it meant abandoning his family once they noticed that his appearance hadn't changed at in several years.
As he walked, the sorcerer wondered how they were doing, if they were alright, or if they missed him. Even though he'd run away from home just two years ago, the urge to go back to them at least once was still strong.
So he straightened his shoulders, and promised that he would return to them, once his time in Roarhaven was up.
WELL THEN. MATTY IS BACK. I'm still working on Edge of Heaven, and I'll try to get chapter 1 posted before Christmas. I have a lot of stuff happening, so I won't be able to write much, but I'll try. This one is a maybe-short, maybe-long Skulduggery Pleasant fic, as I just finished the series a few hours ago. Wow. There will be spoilers, you have been warned. This chapter is short, the rest will be longer.
But sit tight, make sure you've got a paper bag by your side, and get ready for the next update.
