Every soldier feels they fight for what is right
Every soldier feels their side holds all the might
Until that day when soldier meets soldier on the field
Well, then soldier gets a glimpse of what is real
All the soldier sees is blood
Gushing from bodies like a grotesque flood
Yet the soldier ain't got no time to grieve
It's man-eat-man and soldier can't leave
Until it's over and the dead have been counted
Telegrams sent and casualties mounted
The soldier sees philosophy's worth shit
So many times the soldiers are worst-hit
Young children with fighting passion blazing in their eyes
Return, and then that fighting passion slowly dies
They see their buddies gone and then it hits 'em
That this ain't playin' and nobody's winnin'
A bloody field stripped of all its green
Is all that's left as proof of misery
They fight the enemy with increasing bitterness
Before them dance the ghosts of their best friends
Revenge is sworn, eternal hate is vowed
Yet even worse that all this is allowed
Some are so young, too young to hate so much
Equally wrong are those who teach them such
Yet even without old to guide the way
Soon or later every soldier'd say
"I'm gonna get the motherfuckin' bitch
Let's see 'em get a taste of -this-"
The missile whistles, the bomb is dropped
A single soldier laughs, a town shell-shocked
Their enemies are soldiers with no faces and no lives
Their enemies are creatures without families or wives
Their enemies are epitomes of all ultimate evil
Their enemies can never be considered people
And on the other side, the hatred is the same
The bitter realization that war is not a game
Leads soldiers to commit inhuman acts
Makes them believe that cruelty is a fact
Yet fight they must, to shield humanity from pain
Letting their fellows' blood run down like rain
Across the war-torn field and sky
Inside, every soldier spats out "why"
They never gain an answer, dontcha know
The only reply is a weapon's ruthless blow
The only emotion is a twisting of ideals
A process which a soldier cannot shield
A snarling hurt a soldier cannot nurse
Acknowledging it only makes it worse
So to save their minds they step out and they die
Leaving the world with a silent painful cry
For the cycle to stop, for no one else to leave
For the young to live and be free
For the right to befriend a foe
For humanity to learn their goddamned lesson, be it slow
A dying soldier takes no sides
A dying soldier doesn't cry
A dying soldier wants the world to see
A chance that died before it could be free
The nameless soldier -
Me.
