What If Snape Had Been Unable to Save Draco?

Harry Potter watched in horror as blood spurted from Draco Malfoy's chest and mouth. Moaning Myrtle screamed, and within seconds, Professor Snape appeared. He surveyed the scene for half a second before he rushed to Draco, who was lying on the ground, still bleeding profusely. He waved his wand over Draco's torso and muttered a spell, but the damage had been done.
He looked up at Harry for the first time since he entered the bathroom. "To the Headmaster's office. Wait for me there," he said in a voice of deathly calm. Harry rushed out of the bathroom as fast as he could. He was too horrified to even consider disobeying him.
Once Potter was gone, Professor Snape lifted Draco's now limp form and carried him to the hospital wing. The second he entered the room, Madam Pomfrey swept the teen away. For an hour, she worked on the boy, but no potion she forced down his throat or spell she performed made any difference. She finally had no choice, and she pronounced him dead.

Harry sat in the Headmaster's office; his heart was doing a samba against his chest. As much as he hated Draco Malfoy, he didn't want him to die, especially not at his hands. He didn't even want to think about what would happen to him if that happened.
The door opened, and Professor Dumbledore entered, followed closely by Professors McGonagall and Snape; all three wore extremely grave expressions on their faces. Potter rose from his chair at once.
"How is-" Harry began, but Dumbledore silenced him with a wave of his hand.
One look at Snape's face told Harry all he needed to know. "I didn't- it was an acci-"
Once again, he was silenced by Dumbledore's hand. "What exactly happened, Mr. Potter?" he asked.
Harry launched into the story about how he'd heard Draco crying in the bathroom, how he and Draco had started duelling, and how Harry had hit him with a Sectumsempra after Draco had tried to hit him with a Crucio.
Once Harry finished his story, all was silent for a few minutes, until Professor McGonagall spoke. "Mr. Potter, your actions have resulted in another student's death. We have no choice but to expel you."
Harry could do nothing but gape at Professor McGonagall, waiting for her to say she was joking, but it never came. Harry Potter was expelled from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In addition, he served one year in Azkaban for the murder of Draco Malfoy.
