A Concern and a Promise.
Uru and Ahadi watched their sons run around in the Savannah's wet grass. The sun seemed to be shining, a small light projecting through the clouds, but the grass remained cold and wet.
"How can they run around in such condition, are they energetic or something?" chuckled Ahadi, who crossed his paws and rested his head on them. His green orbs darted from side to side as he watched his two sons happily. His mate, Uru, a graceful and swift lioness did not reply, but could only force a smile to please her mate. "What's wrong, Uru?"
"It's just...Nothing, Ahadi. Don't worry about it," she grunted, stepping off of her rock.
"Dear, you can tell me anything... you know that," Ahadi reminded her.
"Well... I don't want Mufasa and Taka to turn out like my father and uncle," she sighed, defeated. He had to find out sooner or later for he was their father. Ahadi was slightly surprised. He was the next ruler after Mohatu, and had had cubs with his daughter. He couldn't just sit there and let her worry. He stood up on all fours, nuzzling her as they watched their sons tackle each other with determination.
"Your father was a great ruler - despite him and your uncle argued a lot." he consoled. "What makes you think Mufasa and Taka will act that way? Taka will be Mufasa's adviser, a great one too."
"Promise?"
"I promise, I promise to the great stars, they will be both great rulers."
Mufasa had pinned Taka for the fourth time, and kept rubbing it in.
"Pinned ya, again, Taka! Face it, I'm stronger than you!" the older cub criticized, panting as he cooled in the shade. He licked his golden fur and lay in the wet grass.
"I can be stronger, too, Muffy." his younger brother protested. "I know I can. I'm just younger..."
"Puh! Younger? Sarafina's younger than you and she pinned you. You're just bony, Taka." his brother said in a mocking tone.
With that, the older cub stood up and began to walk his way home. "Come on, let's go and see if mom hunted anything." Taka sulked as he walked, his green eyes focusing on his small paws.
"Coming..." he muttered as he followed his brother.
Only two short sentences had offended his brother, and it could have been much worse if Sarabi hadn't stepped in and encouraged him.
"You'll make a great brother, Taka. You're my best friend, Muffy's just..." she was interrupted by Taka's hurtful words.
"...A Bully who doesn't care for his younger brother despite his huge and over-weighed body." Taka spat, standing up. "Face it, Sarabi. I'm weak and bony... like everyone says. No wonder dad didn't pick me as king."
He left her side as she thought, her eyebrows furrowed.
"I'm sorry, Taka." she whispered. "I tried, Mufasa." With that, the ear-rimmed cub followed her younger friend back to the kopje known as Pride Rock. What they didn't know was that three others were willing to help Taka defeat Mufasa...
