A/N: I had this planned out month ago but it's taken me forever to write it down. I know it's super short but I like to think it works well that way.

Yuki watched her daughters play in the fresh snow. The youngest tried her best to tot after the other two but couldn't keep up. That was until she switched in her wolf form. The other two soon followed suit.

The memories of all the time she spent running around this yard so many years ago came back. When she was wild and free; when she didn't think of what others thought. She supposed school had changed all that.

School. Yuki turned to look at her eldest, her inky black hair was stark against the snow. She would be starting school in a few months. Just a few days ago her daughter had brought her a rat skull. While Yuki had smiled and exclaimed over the gift she still wonder what her daughter would do in coming months. Would she continue to find skulls, twigs and snake skins or would she be like her mother and give it all up to be liked by the others girls. Would she even like school? Would she follow her uncle's path and hate school?

The thoughts of her brother made her look up to the mountains. Somewhere in those mountains was her brother. Did he find a family of his own or would he one day come back to see if any of her daughters wanted to join him. She shook her head at the thought.

Yuki was pulled from her melancholy thoughts by the yips from her daughters, they wanted her to join them. Their wagging tails was all it took for her to leap to join them. Yuki found that no matter how many times she shifted it always spent a rush of freedom though her. With her daughter close at her sides she took off toward the hills closer to the mountains. she certainly didn't wanted any humans to come across them.

Before long her two eldest were racing each other again and again around the hills. They were covered in so much snow they nearly appeared white. Her youngest was curled at her side after tiring out quickly.

When her eldest reached the top first for the third time in a round she throw back her head to howl. It was a soft howl which Yuki was sure didn't reach past hills around them. This didn't stop her other daughters from joining their sister. Even combined the howls didn't travel far.

She looked to the high mountains, thinking of her brother again. If she called for him from here would he hear her? She knew she didn't have to worry about the villagers. Even if they didn't hear her they wouldn't try to come after her.

She rose to feet, ignoring her daughter's whine of protest. She braced her feet as her youngest moved to stand under her, protecting her to the winds. Her other two daughter fell silent and stilled. Yuki tossed back her head and howl long and sure, calling for her brother.

Long moments passed before a distant howl answer hers. Yuki's heart swelled, she knew he wouldn't coming to see them but his howl was enough.
