I Do

Chapter 1: Born To Be Wed

Thorin paced around for what seemed to be hours.

"Why are you so worried about it?" asked Gandalf from where he was sitting.

"Why?" mocked Thorin. "Why? I'll tell you why! I have to marry the halfling!"

Thorin slunked down into the nearest chair, his face drawn and his eyes clouded.

"I didn't want to ruin our friendship," he said quietly to himself.

Gandalf puffed on his pipe and said with a reassuring smile,

"Hobbits are peace-loving creatures, Thorin. He may be a little shocked at first, but that doesn't mean he cannot come to love you."

"What do you mean?" The king asked skeptically.

"I mean that if a hobbit is placed in an arranged marriage, over time they come to tlove that person as though they had aggreed to an engament," the wizard huffed and said," Thorin he will love you in the end."

Thorin sighed and closed his eyes. He only prayed that Bilbo would not overreact.

"WHAT?!"

"Bilbo, please-"

"You're telling me that I have to marry you? Why- I..I don't understand! Why would you..-?"

"Bilbo, you must see reason," Thorin said calmly.

"Reason? You want me to see reason? Nothing is reasonable about this, Thorin!" The hobbit's eyes were watering and his cheeks flushed. He looked ready to break.

"I can't leave...I can't go home," he whispered. Thorin took a step forward.

"I can't...I..I-" Bilbo fell to the floor, his tears falling like a rainstorm, and his voice turned into incoherant sobs.

Thorin took to his knees in front of the broken halfling.

"Bilbo," he said softly. "I chose you because, in all honesty-" he swallowed and said firmly yet gently,

"If all people valued your ways- of food and cheer, this would be a merrier world."

Bilbo looked up and his eyes were red and puffy, his nose red and running.

"And you believe that I could make you happy?" the hobbit whispered, his voice weak.

Thorin looked into the little being's eyes and finally choked out:

"Yes."

And Bilbo fell against his chest suddenly and began sobbing, Thorin shedding tears with him.

A new feeling arose in Bilbo. He didn't like men. No, this feeling was not a sexual need, it was a personal want to be held close.

"Bilbo, I love you," the dwarf king said softly in Bilbo's ear. "And you needn't answer me until you are ready."

Bilbo was glad for that. He nuzzled into the dwarf's neck and breathed in the cool steel smell. He had smelled it once before when Thorin had hugged him on the Carrock. Oh but how long ago that was...and oh how he relished in the smell again.

He just lay in Thorin's arms, listening to his heart beating in time with Bilbo's.

One chapter up! Hope you guys like it. It took me a week to think of the whole plot and I wrote it in a flash. I really wanted it to be worthy of being called a Bagginshield fanfic. What do you guys think?
