AN: Annie Cresta on how she was before getting reaped and after winning the games. I actually wrote this long ago but I only decided to post it now. Hopefully you guys will like it!
Disc. I do not own the characters mentioned below. They are Suzanne Collins' and the story was just something that came from my head.
It's that time of the year again. Reaping day, the day that she loathes so much. And to think that those in the Capitol are eager to watch the games. All of this, it's inhumane. But who was she to stand up and go against them? She's just a normal girl who lives in District Four, a normal girl who just wants to live a normal life.
The loud tap on the mic was enough to wake her back to her senses. She stared at the lady who was ornamented with a lot of crazy antics as she continued to test the mic. "Hello? Can you hear me? Yes? Okay! Let's start now, shall we? May the odds be ever in your favor!" The excitement in her voice annoyed her. Why should she be excited anyway? Why should anyone be happy? Right now, a family can lose a daughter or a son and there's nothing to be happy about that.
Like the past years, the video about the history of Panem was shown to everyone. It's always like that, something to show us districts that the Capitol will always be above us. "We shall now start. And as you all know, ladies first!" She exclaimed with a huge grin plastered on her face as her hand goes inside the glass bowl filled with small bits of papers. 5 of those papers contain her name: Annie Cresta. She knew that it's stupid if she'll say she's safe because Valeria who lives across her house got her name in for at least 8 times. But numbers don't matter in her case, what she needs is luck, pure luck.
"And this year's District Four tribute will be… Annie Cresta!" Her world stopped as soon as she heard her name. Annie Cresta, that's her. She looked around her and saw everyone staring at her, waiting for her to go on stage. She slowly stepped up before looking at her family whose faces were tainted with agony. She continued to walk slowly as the silence lingers. There's no way she could win the games. After all, she's just a normal girl who wants to live a normal life.
It all happened so fast. Both the tributes from District 4 made it alive after everyone drowned from the tidal wave but unfortunately, one of the career tributes survived and the next thing she saw was her partner's head rolling in front of her and the career tribute lying down with a knife stuck on his back.
She didn't even hear them announce her as victor since she was too focused on what just happened. And when everything sunk in her mind, she lost it. She started screaming and crying. All she wanted was to go home, live with her family, and be happy. Was that too much to ask for?
Cameras flashed everywhere as she walked out of the hovercraft but she didn't smile for them. She just looked in the distance, constantly replaying her partner's death over and over again. She couldn't take it anymore. All the deaths that happened right before her very eyes… she ran away from the crowd not knowing that someone ran after her.
Finnick. He's always been kind to her ever since the day of the reaping. He reached for her arm to prevent her from getting further and looked into her eyes. "Annie, what's wrong?" Annie looked at him, speechless. She wanted to tell him everything. But she couldn't. Scenes from the games continue to appear in her mind and she just cried in front of Finnick. He brought her close to him but Annie didn't seem to care. She wanted to tell him that she wants to go back home but she knew it's impossible. Because Annie Cresta is now a poor, mad girl who can't seem to live a normal life.
