Kyo Sohma called his fifteen year old son, Tamaki, down to the living room. He reminded him of Tohru in so many ways. He had her heart and also her brown hair. Tamaki sat down and looked at his father. "What is it dad?" Kyo sighed and looked at him."We just need to talk. Sit down and listen please." Tamaki nodded and sat down like his father had asked him to. "So what is it you needed to talk to me about?"

Kyo sighed and looked at him. "Tamaki by the time I was your age I'd give anything, to fall in love truly was all I could think. That's when I met your mother, the girl of my dreams. The most beautiful women that i've ever seen." He smiled slightly at the memories. "She said 'Boy can I tell you a wonderful thing? I can't help but notice you staring at me. I know I shouldn't say this but I really believe I can tell by your eyes that you're in love with me.' Now son i'm only telling you this because life can do terrible things."

Tamaki was really listening to his father. He had never heard his dad speak this way and he was wondering to himself what could have made him want to talk to him like this. "Go on dad. I'm listing."

Kyo nodded and went back to telling the story. "Now most of the time we had too much to drink and we'd laugh at the stars and share everything. Too young to notice and too dumb to care love was a story that couldn't compare. I said 'Girl can I tell you a wonderful thing? I made you a present with paper and string. Open with care now i'm asking you please. You know that I love you, will you marry me?' Now remember Tamaki I'm only telling you this because life can do terrible things. You'll learn one day I'll hope, and I'll pray that god shows you differently"

Tamaki was now biting his lip as he realized his father was talking about most sensitive subject for him and that was his mother. He looked at him with wide eyes knowing now that his father had begun he wouldn't stop.

Kyo looked down tears starting to form in his eyes. He wasn't a cryer but when it came to Tohru he couldn't help himself, he couldn't stop himself from crying. He took a deep breath and looked at Tamaki. "I remember it she said 'Boy can I tell you a terrible thing? It seems that i'm sick and i've only got weeks. Please, don't be sad now I really believe, you were the greatest thing that ever happened to me.'" He bites his lip remembering everything from that day. Kyo zones out thinking about it. "Slow...So slow. I fell to the ground on my knees."

Tamaki walked over and sat next to his father on the couch and put a hand on his shoulder trying to comfort him. Kyo looks at him straight in the eyes focusing on his only child. "So don't fall in love. There's just to lose. If given the choice i'm begging you, choose to walk away. Don't let her get you, I can't bear to see the happen to you. Now son i'm only telling you this because life can do terrible things."

Tamaki looked at him and sighed. It was too late. He had already fallen head over heels for a girl in his class and she felt the same way about him. He never forgot his fathers words and it wasn't until after his wife died from the same illness that had killed his mother leaving him with their only son did he realize that he should have listened to him. Because it was true, life can do terrible things.
