It'd taken them so long to get tho this point and now she was the one ruining the moment. He'd gone to all the effort of making it a night for both of them to remember and then she did something she wasn't sure he'd forgive her for.
*************** FLASHBACK*****
"Come in." Gerry told Sandra as she arrived on his doorstep. She was so visibly nervous, a emotion not usually shown by tough as nails Sandra Pullman. She stepped inside and followed him through to his lounge. She'd been her dozens of times before but yet this was so different. It was a completely different atmosphere to the one they usually both enjoyed.
Tonight was the night they'd given in, tonight was the night they'd decided to admit what they already knew true, tonight was the night they moved things between them on. Tonight was their first date.
They'd got so fed up of the tension that in yet another argument they told each other the truth, so here they were at his house having dinner to see if things could work out.
"Sandra I can't believe we've come this far." Gerry told her as he served up their starter of salmon mousse.
"God Gerry you didn't need to go to so much effort."
"Yes I did. You deserve the best Sandra." This is when he leaned across and kissed her and she laughed.
She wasn't trying to be rude and there was nothing wrong with him, as she'd already admitted, she loved him. It was just the shock of them having got this far that made her head spin and the outcome of that was a giggle. The concept of them being a 'them' even though it was exactly what she wanted was strange to her, she'd known him for so long and they were great friends and raising their relationship to new levels was a little odd.
On the other hand though Gerry was distraught. He'd been imaging this night since he'd met her and been planning it all day since they agreed to give 'them' a try. Never in his imagination did the evening turn out with her giggling after their first kiss.
"Gerry I'm sorry." Sandra whispered as couldn't quite believe what she'd done.
"Can you just go please? I'm tired." Gerry told her as he started to clear everything a way, Sandra looked over at the misery on his face before deciding the best thing to do would be to leave. She didn't want to go but she had to before they both said things they didn't mean and then there really would be no point of return, for now there was a possibility.
It churned round and round in her head as she drove home, how could she let the night end like this. They'd spent so long building up to this point and she was the one who'd ruined it. Now she was the one who had some serious making up to do.
"Gerry I'm sorry." She told him as she, for the second time in one night, stood on his doorstep. The words would be meaningless had it been anyone but her. Sandra never said sorry, she never felt the need to be because she always had her own reasoning. Now though she stood in front of him with her eyes sparkling as the moonlight hit her making her watery eyes obvious.
"I understand if you were wrong and you don't feel the same." Gerry told her as he stepped back getting ready to close the door. This was make or break time as far as she was concerned, she didn't care at this point whether he slammed the door in her face or made her dreams the reality she so desperately wanted. She stepped inside an pressed her lips to his, this time without laughing.
The end.
