Sunrise

Watching the sunrise had become a tradition for Blaise and Neville. It had been for years. The first time it had been purely accidental.

Neville had gone out to the lake to watch the sunrise one morning in seventh year because he had woken up and not been able to get back to sleep.

He had found Blaise Zabini out there already, sitting against a tree. Neville had been about to leave, but the dark boy had seen him and waved him over.

He had gone over, but he was extremely tense. But Blaise had never actually done anything to him, and he didn't want to be rude. Not to mention, Blaise's spot was the best place to watch the sunrise from.

He had sat several feet away and had gradually relaxed. After the spectacular colors faded, Blaise had gotten up and gone away, but had shot him a smile first.

A couple weeks later, Neville had woken early again and had gone to the same place. Blaise had been there again. This time he had just gone and sat down. closer than before.

The visits became more and more frequent until he was going everyday. Blaise had been there everyday. As well as becoming more frequent, the visits became longer and Neville started sitting closer to Blaise and they began to talk. Neville learned that Blaise had been coming out here to watch the sunrise since second year. But they always watched the sunrise in silence.

One day, when Neville was sitting next to Blaise, the darker boy had wrapped an arm around him. While the overture was unexpected, Neville was not entirely unwelcome. He had leaned into it and had stayed wrapped in his arms for that meeting and the ones after it. About a week later Blaise had kissed him, and the next day he showed up with flowers. Neville realized that day that Blaise was well and truly courting him he had asked him out. Blaise had, of course, said yes.

They went to the next Hogsmeade trip together. One night, ignoring Neville's protest, he had dragged him to the Slytherin common room. His excuse was that Neville would want to see a plant growing there, but really it was to sow him that the rest of Slytherin wasn't as bad as it seemed.

And indeed it wasn't. No one had objected, although Draco Malfoy raised and eyebrow. Theodore Knott had complained about all the cross-house couples. He got smacked over the head by about four people. It tuned out Draco was going out with Harry. Another seventh year girl named Shivani (call-me-Shiva-or-die) who was usually fairly quiet had squeeled about how cute they were and when he turned red, Pansy Parkinson had made a comment about her being right. For once. He became a regular in their common room. Blaise and him always watched the sunrise together though.

Years later, they still carried on the tradition. Right now he was sitting on the balcony of their apartment, curled against Blaise, watching the sunrise.

Review please. This is just something I thought up while on vacation!
