Loneliness echoed through her home as Prue walked through the Manor. She paused as she passed her grandmother's room, stepped back, and looked through the door that was open for the first time in days. Her heart ached even more as she heard her little sister's cries. Prue walked into the room and took Piper in her arms.
Piper shook as she sobbed, her tears soaking Prue's hair. "Why?" she cried again and again. "Why did Grams die?" Prue wanted to know the answer, too, but had none as Piper railed on until she heard a query she'd never wanted to hear. "Why wasn't it me instead?"
"Hush, Piper," Prue commanded more strongly than she'd intended. "It was Grams' time, baby, but it's not ours." Clutching her face, she gazed into her eyes. "We've got long lives ahead."
"But what are we going to do?" Piper trembled. "What are we gonna do without her, Prue?"
"We'll be okay . . . " she assured. She leaned in to kiss Piper's cheek but found her lips pressing hers instead as Piper unknowingly shifted at the last moment, " . . . together." They stared at each other, both tingling as they hadn't since last they'd kissed years ago.
They had enjoyed holding and kissing each other when they'd been young teenagers just beginning to learn about love, but Grams had caught them and forbidden their romance. They hadn't kissed since then. They stared at each other in shock until Piper whispered, "Hold me?", and Prue did all night long.
