General Hammond spoke ,"In closing, Major Carter's supervisor, Colonel Jack O'Neill would like to say a few words."
Jack strode to the podium and half grinned at the newly appointed Major.
"Normally, I am a man of very few words. And in conclusion, I'd like to say.. ", he waited a second while everyone chuckled aloud.
"Well, seriously, for once," he said, " I would like to pay tribute to someone who is a very valued member of my team and, indeed , of the whole of SG1."
Valued, right, Jack. That's a good word for it. Let's try irreplaceable , shall we? and let's be honest while we're at it, not just for the program. But to me.
" Major Carter has proven her worth risking her life for the team, for the program, and for her country in every mission she serves on."
She almost gave her life for Cassie and I know she would have if it came to that. She will be an incredible mother someday, I know. And every day I live in terror that something is going to happen that I can't save her from.
"Her brilliance has saved our lives on more than a few occasions, and we all know that there is very few problems she won't find the solution to."
Okay, so how can she not know how I feel? It's there in every look I give her, every time we go through the gate, every day of our lives.
"As her commanding officer, I can say that Major Carter's dedication and professionalism is of the highest standard,"
And I guess she won't wear that little tank top ever again. But I've seen her eyes light up when there's jello in the commissary. I know what buttons to push.
"and I am proud every day to be her commanding officer, and hope that you will join me in offering heartfelt congratulations for this well deserved honour. "
Proud, hell, I love her.
Now if I can just get her to come fishing.
