Panic. Adrenaline filled her heart. One foot in front of the other. Run. Run. Run.
The sound of the Arai fill the air.
Oh gods. She's blind.
The darkness encases her and acts like a claw wrapping her in its midnight black talons.
Grasping for anything her hands can feel, she stumbles and falls.
The only thing she can think is Percy.
"PERCY," she yells, but her voice is consumed into the hell of Tartarus.
He left, she realizes. Gone.
In the confusion of pain and anger she's in, carelessness reaches her. Now she's running without logic and analyzation. Nothing matters. It's pointless.
As the horrific sound comes closer, she kneels on the hot, parched ground. The shrieking grows closer and-
She opens her eyes. She isn't blind, thank the gods. To her left, moonlight streams out of her window and bathes the room in a pale silver light. To the right of her stands her desk with its piles of blueprints and notes.
She's safe in her room.
With trembling hands, she reaches up and fiddles with her hair. It's okay, she has to remind herself, it's fine.
But in her heart she knows it's not. And some part of her mind is telling her, very softly but telling her nonetheless, that she needs help.
Percy. She needs Percy.
It kills her knowing she couldn't fix the the problem alone. Knowing that no amount of self-reasurance would make her feel...safe.
She cautiously gets out of bed and fishes through the drawers of the desk. Her hands clutch a silver object and she stares at its blue light.
The ringing of the phone fills her ears. After 3 rings the person on the other side picks up.
"Hello?"
"S-Sally I know it's 4 am but-" She cringes hearing the shakiness of her voice.
"Oh honey." Sally's voice turns comforting, like a mother soothing her baby. "It's okay. It'll be alright." Sally's voice melted Annabeth's heart. She cares.
"Let me give you to Percy, okay hun?"
Not less than 5 seconds later Percy's worried voice came through.
"Annabeth?! Are you okay? What happened?"
At the sound of Percy's voice Annabeth let out a sob. It was stupid, yes. To have something as pre-school as nightmares keep a 17 year old up at night was a cause of shame to Anabeth. And she was holding both her and Percy in jeopardy by calling. But she didn't care anymore.
"Hey. It's okay Wise Girl. We're together and that's all that matters."
His voice dropped to a whisper.
"Love you."
She smiled despite the tears on her cheeks.
"Love you too."
