Disclaimer: I don't own anything.
I just wanted to give Thuke a try, so it may sound OOC. This is my first ever Thuke oneshot so please go easy on me!
"Thalia, we're lost."
I whipped my head around to look at Luke.
"We're not lost, Luke," I said, turning back around to face the trees. There was no reason for me to stare at the trees; I just didn't want to meet his eyes.
"Admit it," he muttered, sounding a bit scared. "we ran away from that Sphinx and now we're lost."
"What, you'd rather be there facing it?" I asked, losing my patience. Luke sounded like he was blaming me for ending up here.
Luke mumbled something.
"We should set up camp now," he murmured, still sounding afraid.
"Yeah." I bit my tongue to keep myself from saying, If only you let me take on that Sphinx, we'd be at the real camp right now. You know, Camp Half-Blood?, but I knew it would only get us into one of those rare arguments that I always caused.
I sat down and felt the leaves crack under my butt, my back facing Luke. I could hear him toying with the tent, trying to set it up. Finally, after a few minutes of silence, he sat down with his back against mine and sighed.
"I got the tent up."
"Cool."
"Thalia, you're still mad, aren't you?" he asked, turning around. I could feel his eyes on the back of my head.
I said nothing.
"Look, that Sphinx was too dangerous. She looked like she hadn't cut her nails since the thirteenth century."
I could tell her he was trying to make me laugh, but I didn't budge.
"I'm sorry," Luke muttered.
I sighed and turned around, facing a boy with sandy hair and bright blue eyes. "It's 'kay."
"I'll let you take on a dangerous, life-threatening monster the next time we meet one."
This time I laughed for real. "Promise?" I held out my pinky.
"Promise." He laced his pinky with mine. I tried to let go after a few seconds but I realized he was holding on too tightly.
"We should go inside the tent now," I said. "it's getting dark."
"No, the stars are nice tonight," Luke said. He lay down on his back, dragging me along with him, for we were still entwined.
I moved my head and looked up at the stars. They were really nice, I admitted.
"We should be at Camp Half-Blood really soon," Luke muttered.
I sighed. "You've been saying that for the past three weeks, and look where we are now. We just battled a Sphinx a few minutes ago and we met a chimera just last week. You think it'll be that easy?"
"I'm looking on the bright side of things, you pessimist."
I rolled my eyes. "Thanks a lot."
"No problem." Luke chuckled. I realized I liked the sound.
"Okay, I actually agree with you… we're getting closer to camp." I said.
"Very close, Thalia," he corrected.
"Same thing."
We kept quiet for a few minutes, just staring up at the stars.
"Hey, make another promise with me," I said quietly, making my mind up on the spot.
"Anything."
I looked at him. His eyes were almost closed. I could tell he was really tired.
"Promise me that whenever you look at the stars, wherever you are, you'll think of me."
It was a stupid promise, but hey, I was ten. I asked dumbass promises back then.
"Sure… Thalia."
I looked at Luke again, and I saw that he was already half asleep. There really was no need for the tent he spent his time on. We would fall asleep right here, on the forest floor.
As long as we had each other.
I smiled at him. "Good night, Luke."
