Mother's Always Know

"Hello, mother."

A small smile broke across my wrinkled face at hearing his voice. His visits were becoming more frequent with each passing day. He tried to pass them off as regular visits however we both knew the real reason was because of my failing health.

'So much older yet still trying to act as if nothing bothers him.'

"Shuichi dear, how are you?"

"Just fine mother but how are you feeling today?"

"Oh don't worry about me," Like he'd ever stop – he was such a loving son. "I'm just fine but what I would like to know – Ah thank you dear."

I had struggled to grab onto his hands in my weakening grip. He quickly helped me my grabbing onto mine instead…He was such a good boy.

"But back on topic! What I want to know is why you're earlier today that you usually are?"

At the question his face seemed to pale and his eyes grew sadder than they already were. It hurt me but every time he came in, I knew I was making him sad. Oh how I wanted him to be happy again.

"I wanted to introduce you to one of my friends she-"

"Oh! What's her name dear?"

"Botan. However, I had to tell you something before that. I'm…"

His voice grew quiet and he started fidgeting under my gaze – a rare occurrence for he'd hardly ever been nervous around me before. However, he seemed to gain some resolve and tried to pull away from my hands. I held on as tightly as I could, which wasn't very tightly at all, before my grip failed me and his arms slipped to his side. I frowned slightly before looking back at his face to encourage him to continue.

"Go ahead dear."

"Mother, I'm sorry I didn't tell you this before and I completely understand if you decide to hate me –"

"I could never hate you."

He nodded but his reluctance at believing me was as clear as day.

"Mother….I'm a demon."

I smiled at him and used my remaining strength to reach out and bring his hand to my mouth. Leaving a small kiss, I told him the one thing I had been waiting to share with him for years.

"I know."

AN: A quick little one-shot on Shuichi finally telling his mother about being a demon. I put it very late into her life because I felt like he'd wait for as long as he possibly could before he told her. Actually if you read into it you get that she's going to die soon - which is why he's introducing her to Botan and she used all of her 'remaining strength' - as in life and energy - to tell him she had already known for years. Anyways I figured she would have figured out that her son was getting into something suspicious and would have at least had some doubts as to what he was doing. Then she could have overheard him talking to Hiei, Yusuke or have just heard Kuwabara talking - since he's not the most secretive person in the world - and figured out that he was a demon. Anyways review and tell me if you liked it~ :) And constructive criticism is always appreciated.
