hey so i was watching Captain American aGAIN last night and this just happened so yeah
She arrives just before 8 o'clock the next Saturday, just enough time for him to arrive, if he was coming.
She doesn't really know what she's doing here, but she goes inside anyway. Maybe it's to torture herself, but it's probably mostly just to honour his memory. Not that he needs it from her; no one could say a bad word about him, not about Steve.
She checks her coat and asks the band to play something slow while she orders a whiskey, neat, and cigarettes. She wouldn't usually, but she has the feeling she won't be making it through the night alone. It wasn't supposed to be this way, she thinks as she finds a seat on the wall close to the band but not far enough from the bar that it'll be noticeable when she makes several trips.
No, it really wasn't supposed to be this way, she was meant to be dancing with him, stepping out of his way so he doesn't step on her toes, but not getting annoyed when he does. She was meant to be dancing with him, not watching the other soldiers dance with their girls; she was meant to be teaching him, not drinking to forget him.
She laughs at that. Drinking, wow, this is what she's come to. Peggy Carter, the Winter Soldier, drinking to forget a boy. He wasn't really just a boy though; he was theboy, if anything. Its then she decides to tell the bar to hold her tab, to close it, she'll wait out her song and leave. She'll be the Winter Soldier. She'll avenge him.
Before she gets up she's asked to dance by several men, but she declines every offer, telling them she's just waiting for the right partner.
