Chapter One

"Oh no!"

I quickly pace towards the doors, holding onto the slightly messed up duffle bag. My pitch black hair (that reached my ankles) bounce as my red eyes flared with anger. I huffed as I patted down my black skirt, and mused at my black and white "sailor" shirt. My long black socks were ripped, the right one ripped at the bottom, the other having holes. As I had walked down that lane, you'll notice that one of my boots were to my ankle, the other above it. I generously fixed my goggles, which were to protect my eyes from smoke and stuff. Gracefully- and angrily -I walk down the stairs, ignoring the looks everyone gave me? So what if I'd looked like I ran from a war zone? I was more worried about myself then others. I just couldn't believe I missed my train stop. But who's to say I can't nap for a while? Of course, the young man next to me could have woken me up, but how should he know where I was heading? Dragged out of my train of thought, I had just noticed I was on a lonely, empty street.

You're all probably wondering this; "Who this mysterious-and-yet-dangerously-looking girl is?". Well, this girl name is Ebony. I was originally born in America. My parents were deceased before I even got to meet them, so I was sent to a old man, who had claim to be my "distant relative". He calls himself the 'Creator'. Why? Not even I know the answer to that particular question. But what I did know is 'Creator' knows something about my past, future- not really -but maybe even a little something 'bout myself. This is what brought me to come to Japan, for the old fart said in a weird riddle, "It's where we had war. The only hope to win was to make the perfect machine, who will soon forget what it did, and be recognize as human." Whatever the hell that meant. I did some research on some wars, and found out about a country call "Japan". My theory was possibly Japan was what he was talking about. I hope I wasn't wrong.

So much for sticking with the crowd, I thought bitterly as I heaved out a long sigh. I don't even know anything about this place, and yet, I ended up on a street with houses, but nobody's around. I then decided to follow my guts, seeing how my brain wouldn't be much of help, and went straight down the road. I glance to my left, only to see the sun setting, giving off the bad vibe of it turning dark soon, and the good vibe of being there. I decided to watch it for a moment, relieved that I able to see the orange flames, mixed with red, another day. Heck, I could care less where I was at, just as long as I'm alive. Thinking about orange flames gained me a lost memory. All I saw was smoke, fire...and men. A lot of men. They seem to be at war- and protecting me at the same time. How was I important to them? How was I useful? Ugh, just thinking about this gave me the chills. Then, seeing a blurry face- how could I not see that? "Stupid memories." I mused as I ran a few fingers through my hair, acting as cool as cucumbers.

After what seems like eons, I finally broke eye contact with the sun, forcing my feet to move forward. All I wanted to do was find out about myself, that's all I ask for. Sadly, I didn't get what I wished for. Instead, I just get misery, pain, sorrow. Even pity was there, sticking out the most. Again, another sigh escaped my lips. Was life really that cruel? Yes, yes it is, the small voice in my head reminded. I hate that small voice. Leaving a scowl on my face, I decided not to argue with it, then continue to go off into deep thinking, until a small round object had smacked me right in the face, dropping into my hands. "Ah! Are you okay, ma'am?" The brunette, who went to catch the soccer ball, frowned a little. Mostly at himself. He should have been more careful, the boy thought with concern. "Please, don't call me ma'am. That's a little to formal, and yes, I'm fine." I grunted, rubbing my whole face, failing to notice a small smile implanted on the brunette's face. "That's good to know...Name's Takuya! Takuya Kanbara! And you are?" I felt foolish for not telling him my own name. Can I be any more ruder? "Ebony." It was simple and short, just like everything else should be. Or, maybe not. Then the world would be boring. "Ebony... What a unique name!" When he had said my name... I swore I felt my cheeks grew warm. When he said it, the name rolled off his tongueperfectly. And when it had been said perfectly, that's when I knew we would be good friends. "Oh yeah," Takuya shouted out of the blue, giving me a small heart attack. "I got to go somewhere! Sorry for leaving so unexpectedly. See ya around then?" He looked at me with a hopeful look that I would. How can I refuse such a question? I found myself in auto-mode, saying whatever I had in mind. "See ya around then." I echoed. Takuya look like the most happiest kid on Earth. He beamed at me before running off to who knows where. Maybe I should just follow him, just in case.

Even before I could blink, my phone had beeped. Taking out my cell phone, I flipped the screen up. "An unknown message?" Wow. Was my voice always that dark and cold? I never sounded like that around Takuya. Looking at my two options, I had chosen 'Yes'. I was wondering if Takuya had gotten it too...WHAT?! Why was I thinking about Takuya so much? We just met! Startled by my own thoughts, I never did notice how my own two feet were walking on their own.

All of the sudden, a sharp female voice tuned in, interrupting my train of thoughts. "Ebony Himi," gasping, I struggled to speak. Only a few words came and went, "I-I d-don't have a l-last name... My p-parents d-died..." "Not true, young one. Your brother is in the train station. You must go as well." Brother? "Wait, wait, wait," I found my cold, dark voice again- not to mention startled -as I eyed the phone. "I never had a brother." "You do. Tomoki Himi." Now I started to wish I had never answered it. "Ebony," The woman said softly, like she was trying to soothe my confusion, "You have been one of the many children to become something good for both worlds. Things will be explained on the way to the Digital World. But this is up to you, and you alone. Do you wish to proceed?" I thought about it for a while. If my family is truly alive, and if I do have a little (I figure since he sounded so little) brother, "Alright, I have your answer," Now I know why 'Creator' had send me here. He knew this would happen. "Give me the directions."

I was going to the crowded train station, and only to find myself tugging on the hood like there was no maƱana. I just hated the crowded places. It was like, I was just gonna die right there and then. I just wanted to talk more to the woman, but I seemed to have lost her when I entered the station. Hopping onto the train, I noted my surroundings. I would never take another train ever again. There was people who were reading newspaper, texting, talking loudly about their personal problems, little kids screaming, parents scolding their children. I lean against the wall, since there was no seats left, then frowned as I couldn't find my MP3 player. Well this suck a lot. What sucked more? A guy stood next to her. He wasn't even half bad looking. Why me? Why do I have these, these- insulted thoughts?! Speaking of which, he wore a dark blue and gray bandanna, assuming to shield most of his hair, which is jet black and place into a sort-of-loose ponytail. Wow. His hair made his eyes pop, like a 3D movie. Beautiful blue eyes. I made a mental note to kick myself later. He wore a blue windbreaker with one yellow stripe on both sleeves, hiding a yellow shirt with blue trims. He had dark gray pants that went a few inches above his socks, which were the same color. He had light blue and dark blue strips on his feet. In other news, he looked like a reasonable guy. Murmuring and cursing when my phone beeped, I saw that it was from the women again. "Transfer to the 6 o' clock subway from Shibuya Station." I looked up a bit, seeing what time it was. But I saw the boy looking at his cell phone too. I wonder... my thoughts were interrupted as I was rudely interrupted by a certain brunette's voice. "AAAARRRRGGGG! Give me a break! I'm doing the best I can!" Sweating a bit from his outburst, I resume back to my plans. I decided I'm gonna pop the roof. Literally. Taking out a chainsaw, I had stick it in the right place, chaining a square. Everyone around me were either screaming, or minding their own business. Lovely. After opening a small proportion of the train, I instantly grabbed the piece, thrown it into the duffle bag, then putting anything else away. I tossed my bag on top of the train, then climbed. Sealing the square piece back onto place, I ran and jumped off the train, running the rest of the way to the station.

As soon as I had reach the elevators, I notice the same boy from earlier walked right in. I was right! He did get the same message! "WAIT!" Oh crap, Takuya! "Ta...ku...ya?" My eyes widened as he jumped in and his head against the wall. Ouch. "U-Uhh... Huh? Ebony? Wow. So you did get the same message!" I just shrug my shoulders, not in the mood for talking. Though I would really like to get to know what's-his-name. "This is great- Somebody I know is going to the same place as me." Then his eyed shifted to bandanna boy, "and who might you be?" Bandanna boy just looked right at me. It's like he was pleading for me to make goggles over here stop talking.I just smirked. "Actually, I like to know your name too." Seeing how I had responded, he frown deeply, then a sigh escaped. "Kouji Minamoto." "Takuya Kanbara." "Ebony." Then they both eyed me. "What?" "Nothing." They both said. Creepy. Then, I notice how the lights flickered on and off, on and off, on and off, and so forth. "Doesn't this scene remind you how that there isn't a basement?" Takuya squeaked as he looked up at the numbers. How adorable. I like the fear expression on his face. "W-What?" Oh crap, did I say that out loud? "What?" I asked back, biting my lower lip. Before he could even open his mouth, the elevator jerked to a stop, making Takuya lose his balance and grab a hold of me. "Get off of me! Does it look like I'm the handles?" I hiss as he let go, and apologize. Ding! The elevator opened, showing a whole train station underground. An underground train station? Cool. Kicking Takuya off my leg, I had darted to the closet- and the most empty -train, then sat down in my seat, barely keeping a steady beat. Sliding down into my seat, I closed my eyes, thinking how Tomoki will look like. Silence came and gone just like that, thanks to the shuffling of feet. "Takuya Kanbara, you are one dead man for interrupting my peace." "Who's Takuya Kanbara?" Opening one eye, I look to see a boy with a blue and white hat, covering his eyes and his hair, Basically, he's Kouji. "So it's you then Minamoto? Never thought you were a stalker." I huff as I had fully sat up, opening both eyes in the process. "Okay, look, I don't know who this Minamoto guy is but, I'm Koichi Kimura. And I'm not a stalker!" He slipped off his hat, revealing scruffy pitch black hair. Like Kouji's. Blushing out of embarrassment, I mumbled a quick apologize. Koichi smiled softly. "It's okay! But, who are those two anyway?" "Friends." I had wanted to say, but instead, I said, "A bunch of weirdos who stalk me." Koichi laugh a bit. "Oh really?" "Yeah."

Before another word could be spoken, the train made a big bump, knocking both me and Koichi to the ground. Not a pretty landing, I'll say. "You okay?" Koichi's voice broke through as I regain my vision. "Very." Looking up, I saw something pretty weird. Koichi had this black armor and crimson eyes. Was that blonde hair? "Whoa." We both had said as I stood up, extending a hand towards him. Giving me a grateful look, he grabbed it, letting me pull him the rest of the way. "So, you have a dark side?" I blurted as he looked at me. "I never knew you were a machine." "What?!" I gritted my teeth as I had given him the most meanest look ever. If looks could kill, he would've been dead. "U-Um...Hey look! We're here!" Softening my expression, I gazed outside the window, seeing little creatures everywhere. "Amazing..." I muttered as I got on the seat, taking a closer look. Then, a white creature place their whole face on the window, making a look I could not laugh at. "You're so cute..." I tapped on the glass as the creature continue to chant, "Poyo, poyo, poyo!" "I thought you were the killer type." Koichi tease as I remembered why I was even mad at him. "Y-You bloody bastard! I shall make you suffer!" I shouted as I began to chase him up and down the train, having fun for the first time. I feel free as a bird, you know?

Getting off the train, who seems to talk, and yet sounds scary. He introduce himself as "DarkTrainmon", and claims that we're in Cheribumon's territory. "Who the hell is that?" "SSSHH! Don't be so rude!" "Pfft, rude is her middle name!" "Hush Koichi!" I half shouted as he wince and shrunken a bit. "Anyway, is he the ruler or something?" "Of course. His castle is just straight ahead! You can't miss it." With that said, he chugged all the way back. I shivered as I loomed forward. "II got a bad feeling about this." I whispered to Koichi as we had started to walk. "It can't be that bad. I mean, Cheurbimon sounds like a cool guy!" I rolled my eyes. "Whatever." We kept for the rest of the trip, or we were until Koichi said something that made me jumped. "You're the first friend I ever had, and I want it to stay that way, you know?" Now, you'll see me frowning and yelling at how stupid that sounds but, I couldn't bring myself to do that. I knew it was true, and I felt that way too. I gave him a soft smile, "Same goes for you too, Koichi." Grinning, he hopped onto my back, saying how he wanted a ride. "You're so childish." I grumbled as I continued to walk, only hearing him snort in response.

"Here we are, princess." Dropping him on "accident", he fell on his ass and jerked awake. He sat up, giving me a dirty look. "What the hell-" "Ebony." "-Ebony?!" I snickered as he got up, dusting his clothes and all. "I just couldn't help myself, Koichi!" "Well, try harder..." He muttered as he went in front, leading the way in. I smiled softly and followed. "Is this castle dirty or what?" Koichi hummed as he slide a finger on one of the chairs, not even thinking about the dust. "Koichi," "Hmm?" "Why is your phone glowing?" "Huh? Oh!" Grabbing his phone, we both gasp as I hurried for mine. It can't be? NO! "My cellphone, turned into a device!" We both shrieked as we fumbled with our new phones. "WW-W-Why me?" I sulked as Koichi seemed to be confuse. "My, my, my. I dragged in not one- but two Digidestined!" A dark voice mused as we both looked into the shadows. "You must be Cheribumon. You look like a fat rabbit to me." I growled as he flinched. "Why, I'M THE RULER HERE! NOT YOU, YOU HEAR ME?!" He shouted as the castle shook. "Why, that is so scary." I rolled my eyes as Cheribumon sighed, trying to calm down. "Koichi," He turned to Koichi. "Your digivice is glowing because your spirit is here, with me." I got a bad feeling about this. "Spirit?" "Yes. Your Human Spirit." Soon, he held up a bubble that had a totem inside. "And it's yours to keep." Koichi suddenly aimed at the totem, shouting, "SPIRIT!" Slowly, Koichi morphed and changed into that beast I saw earlier. The crimson eyes, the black armor, the blonde hair, the dark aura. This is what I feared for my friend. "Execute, Spirit Evolution..." Data covered Koichi, then disappeared as fast as it had came, showing the figure I saw. "...Duskmon!" I gulped as Duskmon turned around, eyeing me like I'm some sort of stranger. He walked forward, his "hand" pulling out a red crystal like sword. Duskmon isn't gonna kill me, right? Right?! "Finish her." He is! I held my eyes close, waiting for death to fall upon me. I waited a few moments after hearing a sound the open my eyes. "...Huh?" He missed. Duskmon missed and hit the ground instead. He looked at me with some sort of look... Kindness? 'Pretend to be dead.' He invaded my mind. GREAT. And I did so. "Dead, my lord." "That, now dispose of it and lets focus on the others." "Yes, sire." Bowing and walking to the side of the castle, he dropped me. "That was for the boy." "Koichi will be Koichi... But, why did you do it?" "I did it because Koichi seems to fight me even more if I did it anyway." "Oh." Smiling at my dumbness, I hugged him and quickly let go. "That was for you and Koichi. But don't worry, I'll be back to save you both from this hell cage!" I could have sworn Duskmon smiled. "Then we'll wait. But I can't keep control of my evil side, so quickly before I kill you out of no control." Quickly nodding, I waved bye before escaping, and crying my heart out for my friend.

"Go to the "Forest Terminal", Ebony." What is that? Before I could ask, the voice had gone yet again. I sighed out of frustration. I have no time for this! I need to go and save Koichi and Duskmon! And to do that, I need to get stronger. I saw a bridge that just appeared out of nowhere. Time to put my skills to the test. I quickly ran over the bridge, making sure I wouldn't get ran over by a Trailmon. I stopped to take a breath, then got off the track as I heard a whistle. That was a close one. "Watch where you going little girl!" He shouted before chugging away again. Damn it! I sigh as I continue my journey before seeing a train stop not too far. "Finally." I grumbled as I stomped over towards it, then climbed up. "Man, can this day get any worst?" "Maybe it can." I quickly turned to see Kouji, who look assumed. "Shuddup Kouji." I hiss as he just blinked. Blinked. "Hmph." Silence fell as we both stared at each other, the other not moving. Then he was the one to break the silence, "I didn't see you with Takuya." I grimace as he had just reminded me of my lost. "Well, I was on another train." "Hmm..." "...Did you get a spirit?" "Hm? Oh, yeah. Lobomon. He's the Spirit of Light." The opposite of Darkness, I thought sadly as he held up his digivice. Not bad for the "Warrior of Light". His Digivice was white and blue, unlike mine. "...Did you get yours?" I shook my head. "I see... Did you find anybody else?" "Yeah, I did. He's name is Koichi." "Koichi, huh?" "Mhm..." I explained what had happen and why I'm here. Kouji, being the 'nice guy', just nodded, listening to everything I say. "...And that's how I ended up here." I smiled a fake smile as I looked up from my lap. I flinched when I saw Kouji's mixed emotion face. I thought he was emotionless? "So, you're gonna get him back?" "Of course." "Then I'll help you." "Thanks Ko- WAIT HOLD ON!" I almost fell for it too. "I don't need anybody's help.I can do it on my own." "I don't see your spirit." "Damn it, Kouji, I'll be just fine." I grumbled as Kouji placed a hand on mine. Wait- what? "Kouji...?" "Listen, Ebony, I know how you feel. I too felt like I should do things on my own. That who wasn't work out for me, cause I realize everybody needs somebody to help them through things. Even the ones who was stronger then us. I'm talking this from experience, and I don't want you to do this alone. Please, let me help?" Me being speechless is surprisingly weird: I always have something to say. I shut my mouth, not knowing what to say, them opened it, "I-If you really wanna h-help me... I'll t-take that c-c-chance." He nodded before letting go of me. "We may never tell anybody this, okay?" "Of course." I rolled my eyes. Typical Kouji. Then I heard the sound of soft snoring. Was that Kouji?! I looked to only see Trailmon asleep. Oh. Then my gaze switch to Kouji, who was actually asleep. Frowning a bit, I gotten up and moved to the ground before passing out, the last thought in my head: Where did I go wrong?
