A Loving Family Always Makes You Feel Better

Chelsea coughed harshly, whimpering as her throat really hurt and her head was pounding. She lay in bed, trying to get comfortable and stop the pain. Water Hazard sat nearby her, placing the digital thermometer under his daughter's tongue. It beeped after a moment and he looked at it.

"Well, it reads 101 degrees," he said. "You're sick, honey."

She looked so miserable as she lay there. He stood up. "HQ called me in to cover for a coworker," he explained. "Let me see who's around. I don't like leaving you alone while you're sick."

She nodded and he headed downstairs as she closed her eyes and fell asleep, hoping she'd feel better later.

Chelsea woke up when she felt a hand on her head. "Poor kid," said a voice. "Hope she feels better soon."

She opened her eyes and gasped in fear when she saw a black and green alien with plug-like fingers and two dreadlocks and a tail with outlets at the end. His one green eye looked concern. "Take it easy, Chelsea," he said gently.

Scared now, she somehow managed to get up, but stumbled backwards, feeling strong arms catch her and pick her up as a hand lay on her forehead.

"Good grief, her fever's hotter than a sunburn," said another voice.

Chelsea shivered as she began to cry, wanting her father and not knowing who these two strangers were.

"Hey, easy," said the first one, his voice softening.

"Don't cry," the one holding her cooed gently. "Crying will only make your sickness worse."

He set her back in her bed and they tucked her in. She looked up at them as the slightly taller black and green alien wiped away her tears and the other one placed a cool cloth on her forehead.

"Water Hazard wasn't kidding when he said you were really sick," he said, gently wiping the cool cloth over her face.

Chelsea looked at him. "You…you know Daddy?" she croaked out and winced as her throat hurt more.

They smiled. "He's a friend of ours," said the taller one. "When he told us you were sick and he got called in, we promised him we'd keep an eye on you."

"By the way, I'm Feedback and he's my older brother, Ultimate Feedback," said the shorter one as he placed the cloth on her forehead again.

"Call me Shocks," said Ultimate Feedback with a bright smile. She tried to smile back, but winced and whimpered as her throat hurt.

"Let me look around and see if I can find some of that throat medicine for her," said Feedback as he headed out. Shocks sat down beside Chelsea and stroked her head gently.

"Don't worry, you'll feel better soon," he said encouragingly.

Soon, Feedback came back in with the throat spray. "Open up, kiddo," he coaxed her and she opened her mouth, allowing him to spray the medicine directly onto the irritated walls of her throat. "Good girl," he said. "Now, swallow."

Wincing, she did as she was told and her throat felt a bit better. "We'll have to give her a dose of this medicine every so often," he said to Shocks, who nodded.

"Is there something we can do for her headache?" he asked. "I can tell it hurts her."

"I don't think so," said Feedback. "But we need to make sure she stays hydrated."

"Let me head downstairs and make her some tomato soup," said Shocks and he headed downstairs.

Chelsea looked at Feedback. "Why are you taking care of me?" she asked curiously.

Having expected that question, he smiled and stroked her head. "You're our niece, kiddo," he said. "We all watch over and take care of each other."

She gave him a grateful look, but then coughed a little bit, feeling terrible as her throat hurt more. Feedback rubbed her back for a bit as she sat up. "How about a hug?" he said. "Hugs always make someone feel better."

"Please?" she asked, her voice still hoarse.

She felt the Conductoid pull her into a hug and hold her as she rested her head on his shoulder, feeling more tired. Shocks came back up with the soup and fed her while Feedback held her and tucked the blanket more around her to keep her warm. The soup was soon gone.

"Good girl," said Shocks. "Feeling better?"

"A little," Chelsea admitted.

He gently poked her side, making her giggle a little. "Why don't you get some rest?" he said kindly. "That will help too."

She looked uncertain, which they both saw. "We'll be right here," said Feedback reassuringly.

But Chelsea hugged him harder and the brothers understood. "Ah, you want us to stay?" asked Shocks.

She nodded, giving them a hopeful look with eyes shining. They smiled and lay on either side of her and began humming softly. They harmonized together as they watched Chelsea's eyes close and she fell asleep, their humming soothing her.

For the rest of the day, they took care of her and Water Hazard called to let them know he wouldn't be back for a few days as the mission was taking longer than he thought it would have. He talked to his daughter, and sent her well wishes with his love. It made her feel a bit better and she hoped she'd be over her sickness soon.

After a couple more days, Chelsea woke up one morning feeling a lot better and saw both her uncles asleep beside her and she snuggled down under her covers, dozing a bit more and saw them wake up. "Hey, kiddo," said Feedback. "Feeling better?"

She nodded. "Yeah, a lot," she said, her voice sounding much better.

"Hey, your voice is back," said Shocks as he got out the digital thermometer and checked her temperature. It beeped and he looked at the readout. "Well, your body temperature is normal again."

"Really?" asked Chelsea.

"Sure is," said Feedback. "Why don't you get dressed and we'll do an activity together?"

The young teenager didn't need to be told twice as she scampered off and got dressed while both Conductoids waited in the living room for her. She came flying down the stairs, but tripped a bit on the rugs, stumbling and landing on Feedback, who caught her before she hit the floor. He picked her up and put her in his lap.

"Nice landing, kiddo," he said teasingly as his plugged fingers began tickling her stomach. Chelsea giggled and laughed as she tried to escape his tickling hands and then shrieked when Shocks wrapped an arm around her ankles and began tickling her calves and under her knees. She couldn't get away as their grip was too strong on her.

"Cootchie, cootchie, coo!" Feedback cooed.

"Man, she's really ticklish," said Shocks as he smiled at Chelsea. "Tickle, tickle, tickle!" he teased her.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Chelsea laughed out before suddenly coughing, making both her uncles stop tickling her and help her regain her breath.

"You okay?" asked Feedback.

She nodded. "I'm okay," she said and hugged him. He returned her hug and gave her to Shocks, who pulled her into his lap and felt her hug him. He returned the hug affectionately.

Then the front door opened. "Hello?" called a familiar voice. Chelsea's face lit up as she jumped up and ran for the front door.

"Daddy! You're home!" she cried out, almost tackling him as she hugged him.

"Chelsea, my little sea anemone," he chuckled. "You're feeling better?"

"Much better, Daddy. Thanks to Uncle Feedback and Uncle Shocks," she said.

Water Hazard saw the two Conductoid brothers come in and he smiled at them. "Thank you both for taking care of Chelsea while I was gone," he said.

"Hey, anytime, bro," said Feedback and Shocks nodded.

"Uncle Water Hazard!" cried a voice and a small bundle of black nearly tackled the red alien, who quickly caught the bundle which he saw was Sparkle, his niece. Chuckling, he felt her hug him and he returned the hug, turning to Chelsea.

"This is your cousin Sparkle, Chelsea," he said. "She's your uncle Feedback's daughter."

"Hi!" Sparkle chirped, jumping over to Chelsea and hugging her. The teen hugged her back with a smile as the three adult aliens came together in group hug with the girls sandwiched between them, but neither minded as the love they felt filled them all with happiness and joy.
