He woke up with a tear stained face. But this one had been different. This one had been good. Lucas dragged himself out of bed and to a mirror.

Hanna had told him that she loved him and then they had kissed. It was the best dream he'd had in a while.

Turning on the water he washed his face until he looked like he hadn't been crying happy tears all night. Hanna would never love him. Simple as that.

Sighing he threw his backpack over his shoulder and made his way to school.

Something was wrong.

He got this message loud and clear as he walked up the steps to the high school.

Sean threw his hands up in anger, "I give up! You are impossible to please. I don't- I can't do this anymore Hanna. I'm done. We're done."

Hanna was crying and Lucas swore that his heart would shatter at the horrible sound. "Sean... Wait please!"

He spun around. "What Hanna?! What could you possibly want?"

Hanna kept crying.

Sean shook his head and walked away, muttering under his breath.

Slowly Lucas approached her, "Han do you want me to take you home?" He asked quietly. She nodded.

He put his arms around her shoulders and steered her out of the school and towards his car. He helped her in and got into the drivers seat.

By the time they had gotten to Hanna's she'd stopped crying.

"That jerk didn't deserve you. He's a freakin' moron if he can't see that you're the best thing in his life."

Hanna smiled lightly and kissed his cheek. "Thank you, Lucas. For the ride and what you said. You're a really good friend."

Lucas hoped that she couldn't see the pain behind his eyes when he smiled. "Anytime Hanna. And everything I said is true."

He got out of the car and opened her door. She stepped out and then he grabbed her wrist. Before he knew what he was doing, he kissed her.

Almost as soon as their lips met, Lucas pulled away, embarrassed.

"Uh... Lucas?"

"Yeah I know. I'm sorry I don't know what came over me. You just got out of a relationship and even then I'm not the kinda guy you'd go for."

"Lucas..."

He looked at her and was surprised to see that she wasn't mad. She was smiling.

"I just wanted to know if I could have my wrist back."

He looked down and realized that he was still holding her wrist hostage. "Oh sorry..."

He let go and turned to get back in his car.

"Hey, what are you doing?"

He stopped and turned back around. Hanna was leaning against his car and smiling softly. "We have to establish what we are now."

Lucas frowned in confusion, "What do you mean?"

Hanna took a step closer. "Well I said in the car that we were 'good friends'... But since you just kissed me that's kinda out. So what are we now?"

Lucas was still confused. What did she mean? "Uhhh, great friends?"

Hanna laughed, "Maybe... Or maybe more." She took another step closer.

Lucas now fully understood what she was saying. He cursed himself for being so stupid.

Hanna took the last step and closed the distance between them. Lucas ran his thumb over her cheek and lifted her chin. "As much as I would love to kiss you right now... I can't."

"Why? I thought-"

Lucas pressed his forehead against hers, "You just got out of a relationship, Han. Like half an hour ago. Not to mention..."

Hanna pulled her face back, "Not to mention what?"

"I don't want you to ruin your credibility. Your reputation. If we get together then you're no longer popular. Not if you're with me."

"Unreal. How after everything I've put you through, do you still worry about me?"

Lucas trailed his thumb down her jawline, "Because I love you."

Hanna didn't say anything. Her face was a flurry of different emotions.

"Kiss me."

Lucas sighed, had she not heard a word he just said?

"Lucas I couldn't care less about what they think. You are one of the best things in my life. I was stupid not to see it before."

There was a long silence between them as he tried to process what she'd just said. Did she really mean it?

"Kiss me..."

He cupped her face and slowly brought it up to his own.

He didn't know how long they stood out there kissing. Long enough that his lungs started screaming about the lack of oxygen.

Hanna laughed when they pulled away.

"What?"

She looked at him and he swore that his heart would beat out of his chest.

"Nothing."

She pulled him back into a kiss and murmured against his lips, "I love you."

They pulled away, foreheads touching lightly.

"I love you, I love you, I love you..." She whispered. Lucas pressed his lips against her forehead as she put her head against his chest.

Lucas decided that this was way better than his dreams.
