Remus wasn't sure why he bothered looking at the papers anymore. Every day it was the same: murders and attacks and lies. It was depressing as hell and yet every morning he insisted on reading it front to back in the hopes that maybe there was a shred of good news mixed in somewhere.

"You're only setting yourself up for disappointment. You know that, right?" Sirius told him grumpily one Saturday morning.

"That's funny, James told me the same thing when he found out we were dating," the werewolf replied, flipping the page.

Sirius stomped out of their shared flat not long after that without saying where he was going, leaving Remus to wonder if he should consider apologizing upon his boyfriend's return.

But Sirius didn't come back until the late afternoon, and by then Remus had lost his patience.

"Where did you run off to?" he asked as the dark-haired man dropped onto the seat beside him on the couch.

Sirius shrugged. "Went to visit James."

Remus glared at him. "And you didn't think I might want to go along?"

"It wasn't really a social call. I just wanted to see if that was true … what James said to you when we started dating."

"Sirius, that was a long time ago. You were a lot more, uh, commitment-phobic back then."

The animagus nodded, frowning. "But you know I'm not like that now, right? You know I want to marry you."

Remus winced. He hated having relationship conversations – and usually Sirius did too, but evidently he really had been hurt that morning. "I'm sorry for what I said this morning. I shouldn't have told you."

"Remus-"

"Babe, just let it go. It's been three years, and I love you. Let it go."

"You didn't answer my question: do you believe that I want to marry you?"

"Of course I do," Remus sighed. It was one of the things he held onto when the war became too much. One day – in the distant future – he and Sirius would find a moment of peace to get married.

Sirius grinned, taking the werewolf's hands in his. "Then let's do it."

"Excuse me?"

"Let's get married!"

"What, now?"

"Do you have something else you'd rather be doing right now?"

"It's not that and you know it. We don't have the time, or money-"

"You realize it was your concern about not having enough money that led us to sharing a flat, right?" He murmured, cozying up to Remus' side and making the light-haired man roll his eyes. "You could say that not having any money worked out quite well for us…"

"Sirius, I don't think that's the reason we got together."

"Believe what you like. If it's only money holding you back, I still have a fair chunk of my inheritance from Uncle Alphard's will saved up. A wedding won't even make a dent in it."

"What about our friends? Lily and James won't be able to attend if they're in hiding. Peter will probably be free, but I'll need time to work it out with my parents…"

"Remus, love, I'm not talking about an extravagant wedding here. We can have a party for our friends later, when things are better. Right now, all I'm asking is for you to elope with me."

Remus pursed his lips, weighing his options. On one hand he was pleased to know his boyfriend was so eager to marry him, but Remus had never pictured himself as the eloping type, even if it did suit Sirius perfectly. Remus at least wanted his mum to see him get married.

"It's your choice, love," Sirius whispered, sensing his hesitation.

Remus smiled, cupping his boyfriend's cheek and forcing him to look him in the eye. "You have this all planned out already, don't you?"

Sirius smiled sheepishly. "I might've stopped by Great-Uncle Marius' for a bit. He's, uh, what do you call it … ordained! Right, and well, he's willing to do me a favor. I also might've rented a little cottage in the middle of nowhere for a week."

"Well, we wouldn't want it do go to waste, now would we?" Remus couldn't help but laugh at the goofy grin that broke out on his boyfr – fiance's face then.

"Really?"

"Yeah, but you get to explain to my mum why she couldn't attend."
