A light flickered on in the dark room. A man sat crouched down in front of his computer typing away to someone important in another country, he did not seem phased by the lights at all. A woman stood in the door way with a wet rain coat on. Her deep blue eyes looked at the man with confusion.
"I'm leaving, L." she said with fake boldness. The typing stopped, but the man did not move. He did nothing. She bit her lip, "Aren't you going to say something?" Her voice faltered a bit.
"Don't forget anything." The man sighed. He only stared at his computer screen, but could sense she was getting upset.
"Is that all?" She asked, tears threatened to spill, "Is that all you have to say? I'm leaving you and all you have to say is 'Don't forge-'"
"What else is there to say?" He said firmly as he turned to face her.
"You could tell me not to go!" a tear slipped, and she could feel her face grow hotter and hotter, "Tell me not to, and I won't!" He continued to stare at her showing no emotion what so ever, "Tell me anything!" She sobbed, "Tell me you're glad, tell me you're hurt, but please don't expect me to know!"
"You already know how I feel. You always do. Why do you need me to tell you things you already know?" He watched her wipe tears from her eyes, "You want something from me that I cannot give you,"
"I just want to hear it." She said quietly.
"I thought you understood" He said.
"If you really loved me, it wouldn't be so difficult to say." Her voice was rising.
"I'm so sorry that my emotions don't come pouring out of me like running water!" He shouted. She stood still looking at him, "But if it is words you want…I cannot give them to you." He looked at her once more taking in her rosy cheeks, pink pouty lips, beautiful blue eyes, and her long soft brown hair before turning to crouch at his computer once more, "I have to work now."
"That's all you are L…Work. It's all you ever cared about." She said coolly, "Finishing the case is and always will be more important." L began to nibble on his thumb, "I hope it makes you happy." The pain was too much and she ran from the room, and L could hear her cries as bells from the church next door struck two. L didn't look behind him, but wiped a tear from his eye and began to type again. She ran outside into the pouring rain, and jumped into a waiting taxi cab.
"Please to the nearest airport sir." She managed to say behind tears, and the cab pulled away from the building but she couldn't glance back.
A week later, she found out she was pregnant, and a year later, L was dead.
