There laid his one and only love, despite their non-existent hearts. His hand went to the ground and came back up, thin leather stained with warm, sticky, familiar blood.

How had it come down to this? It wasn't clear. It was for the best, was it? The other had said he wanted to leave, that he wouldn't be missed. But that was a lie. How wrong he was. He refused to listen, forcing Axel to resort to brute force, claiming he wouldn't come back alive or out of his own free will.
