After the bus crash the whole ED had been thrown into turmoil, no one knew what to do and the only man who could have calmed the whole thing down was being kept firmly out of the ED by stupid Henry. Ruth was under so much pressure that she nearly cracked a few times, luckily thanks to her own brilliance she was able to control her urge to just run straight out of the room and cry and was able to save several patients lives. Sadly though one patient did die a young woman with shimmering blonde hair and a sweet smile who wore an engagement ring on her finger. That one hurt Ruth the most, she didn't know why but the idea of such a young woman dying when she was so close to being happy really hit home for Ruth. She shed one tears for the poor girl and then started again, that was the sad truth of the ED department; you had to just roll with the punches.

After her shift was over she quickly fled to the locker room where she was sure she couldn't be seen and collapsed in a heap on one of the comfy chairs. After two or three hours of after-accident cubicle duty she didn't need to cry anymore but the pain of the young woman's death still lingered in her mind. So Ruth just sat and quietly thought of the anonymous girl, praying that wherever she was, she was happy. Just then she heard the door squeak open and a familiar voice cry out in dismay 'Ruth! Are you alright?' it was Jay, brilliant Jay. As she looked up at him she couldn't help but smile at his sweet face, even though it was contorted into a look of worry. He soon noticed her smile though and his anxiousness subsided a little. 'I'm fine' Ruth said with conviction, 'I was just thinking about the poor girl who died today, you know the one from the bus crash'. 'Oh yeah,' Jay replied 'it's a shame, I treated her fiancé and he was devastated', Jay sat beside her and put his arm around her shoulders. He held in his hand a cup of hot tea and, when she saw it, Ruth couldn't help but let out a loud giggle that left Jay utterly bemused, it wasn't Ruth's fault though, remembering Jordan's words today about 'the infuriating ones being the best' and Jay's taunting with the coffee cup just tickled her now she recalled them. She calmed herself down and smiled once again as Jay looked upon her all confused, just so he knew everything was alright (and because she couldn't resist his sweet face) Ruth leaned in and pecked him on the lips in such a way that once the cheeky sod felt outfoxed. For once Jay Faldren was speechless from confusion and Ruth was able to take the lead. 'Come on, lets go for a drink' she said as she moved out of the seat, soon after she was joined by Jay, his cheeky smile glued on for the night now; and, as they left the ED with the cool night air swooshing through her hair and onto her face, Dr. Ruth Winters thought quietly to herself that perhaps the day might not have been such a bad day after all.
