Lois, Lois?! Clark said as he sped into the living room.

He scanned the kitchen, the dining room, and then ran upstairs to see if she was up there. Nothing.

He saw the shark movie on pause, with grainy black and white lines going across the screen. The fire had dulled to a muted blue and Lois was nowhere to be found.

He started to yell her name now. A sense of urgency and fear was in his voice mixed with anger and bewilderment. Where could she be? Why would she leave without telling me?

As Clark was walking out the front door, he called Chloe.

Hey Clark, what's up? Chloe offered.

Have you seen Lois? I came home and I can't find her anywhere.

Have you checked the barn? Sometimes her spot to be pensive and escape is the same as yours.

Clark super-sped to the barn, upending a few bushels of hay along the way. He stopped hard once he was in the loft.

She's not here Chloe, Clark said urgently and in a panicked tone.

Is her car still there Clark?

Yes.

Then she has to be there. You know Lois wouldn't go anywhere without finishing a shark movie.

This isn't time to play games Chloe, She's…

And Clark hung up the phone. Because it was at that moment that he saw the note in the barn. The note that was left for him while he was gone with Chloe and left Lois helpless to defend herself.

Clark walked slowly to the letter. As if picking it up were picking up a piece of kryptonite. As he got closer, the dust from the barn and the wind from his feet rustled the letter and it fell to the floor. Clark picked it up and turned it over. It said Kal-El in big, red letters.

Clark backed up and fell onto the arm of the couch. He shakily and nervously opened the letter.

The last of the day's sunlight shown on him and the letter he was holding as he read the words:

If you ever want to see Ms. Lane alive again, meet me at the place where we first met. -LX
