We thought it was the end, we thought they are satisfied that we are once again their slaves.
PROLOGUE
"What are you doing slacking off!? Get up!" then a crackling sound of a whip slapping a body followed. I tried to look past my shoulder. Another one of my friend is shamelessly whipped by the so called Peacekeepers from Capitol.
I wanted to stand up, try to save him from that horrid beating happening just behind our backs. They didn't have the right to treat him like this! He was just taking a short rest because he almost can't move his limbs because of the numbness by half sitting-half standing all day in the fields! He is old, for Pete's sake!
I was about to stand straight when a hand firmly gripped my arm. I looked at the muddy hands and up to the familiar face of my best friend, Leona. "No Ash. You will just bring more harm to him and to yourself."
She's right. I know where what I was about to do would lead. They will bring us to the Capitol and torture us in methods you can't even dream in your nightmares. They made sure of that, them from the Capitol.
It was just the end of the war. The Rebellion, as the Capitol had said. Now we are back under their tyranny, their cruel hands and they will do anything to let us "taste what It is like to be against the Capitol and lose".
