A/N: It can kind of be seen as a prequel to Daughter of Rome or as a story on it's own.

What made Octavian so bitter? It was a girl ,whom he was pretty good friends with. She was childish, happy and always smiling. Nothing ever seemed to make her sad. I guess you could say he was in love with her. She took away all his serious-ness and made him, well, him. She was a daughter of Mars and in war games, she really did live up to her father's name. It shouldn't of taken him so long to realise that he was in love with her, that she was perfect through his eyes.

One day, He told her. "Jodie! Hey! Wait up!"She turned to face him and smiled. " Hey! I haven't seen you in a while. I know! I know! It's because you're an Augur and you have to 'read the omens' but it doesn't mean you can't spend some time with your friends." He just sighed. " Jod, I have to tell you something. I...Well, I'm in love with you. I always have been."
She stared at him before grinning. " I guess, I love you too!" Then he kissed her, plain and simple. Just, full out, kissed her.

This memory swarmed his head as he stared at the grave in front of him. She'd just left one day, not telling anyone where she'd gone. She was presumed dead. Octavian sighed, shook his head and walked away from the only girl he had ever loved. Never again did he visit the grave, leaving all the memories dead with her.
