The Real Me

Sharpay sat under the large oak reading over her lines. She had never imagined it coming to this. She was the understudy. She was surprised to say the least, but not over the fact that she lost... It was because she was okay with it. She and her brother had been doing shows since kindergarten and never once did it fulfill her. She was popular and eyes followed her everywhere she went, but she was not happy.
She was a hypocrite. Deep down she was ashamed for trying to spoil Troy and Gabriella's chances at the lead roles. She was just afraid of what it might do to her if word got out that she lost. It was a well known fact that she was feared throughout the school and often she had used this knowledge to her advantage. Even her brother had been a victim. In stead of showing him love, she used him to suit her purposes.
A tear made it's way down her cheek and she delicately swiped at it. She had yelled at everyone a few days ago trying to stop a riot in the cafeteria. A riot caused by non other than Troy Bolton and his 'need' to sing. Opinions seemed to fly out of nowhere that day, and the whole time she kept her own to herself and chose to 'stick to the status quo.' She never let on that there was more to her life than drama.
There was a side of her so bottled up that even her twin brother was kept in the dark about it. She, like Troy and Gabriella, also had dreams of doing something else. She wanted to see the world and all that it has to offer. She wanted to ride bareback through a rainforest and see the northern lights.
Sad, she would never see those places. Too many people were hopeful that she would end up on Broadway or in the movies. She could not disappoint her fans.
Sighing, she set down her script. The words just seemed to run together. Another tear fell, and this time she didn't try to stop it. What's the point? No one was around. Just the old oak, and he would never tell her secret.
"No one will ever know the real me," She told the tree. "Sharpay Evens, wanderer."
