Chapter 1-Hanna

It was the last day before seventh grade and Hanna Marin was in her room painting her nails. She couldn't wait to go back to school and show off how much weight she lost. She needed to look good for Sean Ackard, who is the boy she has crushed on ever since 3rd grade. She painted them red because red was always the color that gave her good luck. When she was done painting her nails, planning her outfit, and taking her shower it was time for bed. She had gotten settled in when her mom came in.

"Hanna?" she asked. "Your dads on the phone."

"Well tell him I'll call him back later!" She said angrily. Hanna was so mad at her dad. (1) He left her mom. And (2) He got married to some jerk and her daughter is horrible. How did he expect her to talk?

"Why not?" her mom asked me.

"I'm going to bed, it's the first day tomorrow." She said as she turned off her light.

She could hear her mom downstairs yelling at her dad over the phone.

"Hanna doesn't want to talk, okay" Then there was a pause. "I don't care! She's mad at you!" Then another pause. "WELL MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE YOU LEFT AND THEN GOT REMARRIED!" Then she said some swear words and hung up.

Hanna started crying. Her parents didn't love each other anymore and she couldn't help but feel like she was part of the reason why her dad left. Maybe he was embarrassed that she was his daughter?

Hanna heard her mom open the door. As her moms footsteps came closer she wiped away her tears and pretended like she was asleep.

"I know your crying, Hanna." She said. "Can you please talk to me dear?"

Hanna sat up and turned on her lamp. "How do you always know these things?" She said crying all over again. Her mom hugged her.

"Moms just know these things." She said.
