It all started with the crash. The booming, resounding crash in my backyard that changed my life forever.

I was reading in my bedroom towards the back of the house when I heard it. It immediately startled me out of the dream-like state I enter whenever I read a particularly captivating book. I tossed the book down on my bed and started towards my back door. I threw it open and saw a blue police box on the grass, smoke emitting from it.

I cautiously approached it, not sure of what it was. Quite suddenly, a man ran out of it, coughing heavily. He leaned up against the side of the box for a moment until he opened his eyes and saw me.

"Oh, hello!" He sprang up and walked towards me. I wanted to run, but my legs weren't cooperating with my brain.

"Hello, I'm the Doctor! And you are?" He looked at me expectantly.

"E-Elena. Elena Williams", I managed to stammer out.

"Elena Williams. That is a brilliant name. Sorry about that." He gestured toward to still-smoking box behind him. "She wasn't done recalibrating. This was an emergency landing of sorts."

I finally got the chance to look him up and down. He had brown, thick hair, which was a bit crazed at the moment, gorgeous blue-green-grey eyes, and he wore a tweed jacket with a bowtie, which is atmittedly a little strange.

"'She'? Who's 'she'?" I asked, looking around him at the box.

"Ah! That's my TARDIS! T-A-R-D-I-S. Stands for 'time and relative dimension in space. It can travel anywhere in space and time. Ooh, hang on a 'mo."

He pulled out of sort of torch with a green bulb at the end that made a strange buzzing sound. He pointed it at me from my head to my toes and flicked it upwards. He seemed to find nothing out of the ordinary and put it back in his jacket pocket.

As the reality of this man had just told me was sinking in, all I could manage to get out was,

"What's with the bowtie?"

He fiddled with it. "It's cool. Bowties are cool." That made me smile.

"So.. that is a time machine?" I said, emphasizing on the 'that'.

"You say that as if it's a bad thing." I noticed the box had stopped smoking. "But yes, it is."

"And.. a spaceship?" I continued doubtfully.

"Yes, and a spaceship."

I raised an eyebrow. "Really?"

"Yes, really!" he replied, slightly indignant.

"Prove it then."

"What?!"

"You heard me."

"Fine then." He walked up to the box and threw the doors open. Inside, I saw what looked like a whole nother world. I walked up to the open door and stepped inside.

"Oh.. my.. God."

I ran out and circled the tiny box, only to run back inside and find him next to the console.

"It's.. bigger.. on the inside." I breathed, a bit frightened. I closed the door behind me.

"Alright then, where to?"

"Take me back in time."

"How far back?"

"You pick."

"Alright. 1955?"

"Farther back."

"1900?"

"Am I supposed to be impressed?"

"Right then. I'll take you to Italy, in.. say, Casanova's time?" He poked his tongue out slightly, knowing that would impress me.

An uncontrollable smile spread across my face and I nodded eagerly. He grinned and started running around the console, pressing buttons. He flicked one final lever and came next to me, both of us hanging on tight.

Over the din, I managed to yell, "What did you say your name was?"

He grinned and shouted back, "I'm the Doctor!"
