So this fanfiction is going to be part of a three part series, with this being part one. While the others might be multi-chapter, this one will not. Please enjoy!

Learning to Forget

Her relationship with Klancain was going as well as to be expected. They had begun to make small progress, talking about each other's likes and differences. She had also learned a bit more about Klancain's past, about his childhood, education, his relationship with his father, things like that.

She in turn told him about her, how she had been tutored by Slaine about how Earth was before her peace mission. That was always the hard part, telling him about how Slaine had been before all of this business with him wanting to concur Earth. She believed that he was still in there but Klancain, as much as he would have supported her decisions, believed that he might just be too gone and too different. This had led to little fights between them which had always left things awkward between them for days on end.

The other subject that tended to bring on silence was that of Inaho. It was not secret to Klancain that Asseylum had, and still has, harbored feelings for the Terran boy. In order for this to work, she had to forget him. Despite how much she knew she couldn't and how much it would hurt.

This had led to an awkward relationship between Inaho and Asseylum, not quite sure how to express themselves without being able to be with each other. Most of the conversations that they had were short and to the point, with silence normally expanding afterwards with things that they wanted to say to each other but were unable to.

This time that they met up was no different, except with the fact that she knew that she had to try and become just friends with him, nothing more.

No matter how much I don't want to…

They had decided to meet beneath the bridge that they had first met at, which seemed so long ago, despite it being two short years ago. She had asked how he was, with him asking as well, both trying to not bring up the discussion on Klancain. She knew that it hurt him as much as it hurt her to not be able to be together and therefore tried to avoid any subject that would cause him pain. Although there were only so many times things could be avoided.

"I think we should just be professional with each other." She started trying to avoid the subject but figured that no time would actually be perfect for this conversation. Pain flashed across his eye before he had whispered.

"If that's what you think is best…" It was short, to the point, but it hurt so much. Her heart twisted, not quite sure if she would be able to maintain her composure. She quickly said goodbye, knowing that she wasn't quite ready to say goodbye completely. She didn't think that he would believe her about keeping things professional, it would just be too painful for the both of them. She didn't quite believe herself either; it just wasn't a way the two of them could act around each other after all that had happened.

When she had gotten back to the room that she shared with Klancain, she had been unable to stop herself from breaking down. He had just held her as she cried, knowing that no matter what she did, she wouldn't be able to completely leave behind the boy she had grown so close to.

So yeah… not quite as impressed with this one as 'The Right Choice' but I'm never too good at writing things that aren't InahoXAsseylum or where they need to stop being together. Still I hope you enjoyed! Please tell me what you thought!
