My first official TMNT fanfiction. :) I originally wrote this for a friend in 7 minutes. Ships in here (mentioned) are Mikey/Renet, Leo/Karai, and Raph/April. Do your best to enjoy. ;)
The sun was setting over New York one summer night. 17-year-old Donny sat on the rooftops of the city, simply staring at the brilliant site.
Donny sighed. He was alone right now. His brothers were all... Donny swallowed as he thought about it.With their girlfriends. He knew they didn't mean it, but sometimes Donny felt like he was left alone in the world.
Donny sighed as he looked down at a photo in his hands. He and April stood next to each other, smiling happily for the camera. Donny's mouth curved into a smile as he recalled the memory. Had it really been two years since that childish crush?
April was still the most amazing girl Donny had ever met, but dreams and hopes of them together had long since faded.
Donny still sometimes wondered what she saw in his brash older brother Raph.
The sun had dipped lower in the sky now. Instead of day's bright blue, the atmosphere was fading into twilight's pale indigo. Donny stood up. He had better be getting back to the lair now. Maybe his brothers and Casey and Master Splinter would care he was gone.
"Hey, Donny! What's up?" Apparently so, for Mikey came bouncing up to the rooftops, a sparkle in his blue eyes. "What are ya doin', man? The party's down there!" He pointed to the ground. Donny sighed.
"There is no party, Mikey." He gently brushed past his brother. "We should be home by now."
"Dude, are you alright?" Mikey asked, following Donny down the fire escape. "You seem edgy."
"Edgy?" Donny repeated. "How so?"
"I dunno." Mikey shrugged. "What's on your mind, D?" Donny hesitated. Mikey was... well, Mikey.
"Where's Renet?" he finally asked. Mikey smiled as they lifted the manhole cover up.
"She's off in Greece, 20 B.C.!" The younger turtle answered happily. "Said she'd bring me back a postcard!"
"Great," Donny replied, jumping down the hole. Mikey followed, but his blithe expression had turned serious.
"Donny. Seriously. I think something's wrong with you," he commented, poking Donny's cheek.
"Like the fact I can't get a girlfriend," Donny muttered. The remark wasn't meant for Mikey's ears, but the other still heard. His eyes widened.
"Wait, you're sad because you haven't found the girl of your dreams yet?" he repeated. Donny nodded miserably.
"Well, I might've, if April had liked me back."
"That's rough, bro," Mikey remarked, placing a comforting hand on Donny's shoulder. "Listen man, you'll find a girl."
"I doubt it," Donny mumbled. "It's not so much that, Mikey. It's just- ugh, how do I put this?"
"Try me, bro," Mikey answered encouragingly.
"It's like you're always with Renet!" Donny blurted out. "And, you know, Leo's always with Karai. And Raph and April, too." Mikey looked surprised.
"I'm sorry about that, D. I didn't notice-"
"It's fine." Donny brushed the apology off. "I'm fine. I'm better off alone."
"Casey doesn't have a girlfriend," Mikey pointed out.
"Casey is a human," Donny countered. "He can get a girlfriend whenever he likes."
"Yeah, and then we'd have to let her in on the secret of the Kraang," Mikey responded quickly. "Casey can't just leave her in the dark!" Donny rolled his light brown eyes.
"Mikey, why are we talking about Casey having a girlfriend?" he questioned.
"Because you felt sad about not having a girlfriend?" Mikey guessed. Donny allowed himself to smile.
"Thanks, Mikey. Come on, we're almost to the lair."
Donny didn't feel like his problems had been solved. But for the moment, just knowing Mikey cared made him feel a lot better.
