A/N: This is my first fic so please enjoy! Constructive critique is appreciated. I do not own Hunger Games.
Just another boring day in a boring life, Thought Hecate as he walked through the streets. Though, things ought to spice up with the reaping tomorrow, The boy thought.
Another year gone, another 23 young lives snuffed out. This is the real anthem of Panem. An oppressive government, a horror like the games, both of these things are just normal happenings in this sorry excuse for a nation.
Still, it doesn't matter to me, I won't be picked anyway. Hecate wandered around, looking at the scared faces of the people of his district. I should be going home soon, Mother will worry.
The brown-haired teen walked home slowly, and deliberately, not wanting to get sidetracked. As soon as he got home Hecate went upstairs and fell asleep, not even bothering to greet his mother
The next day Hecate dressed in a simple shirt and pants, not believing in dressing up for Reaping Day. He sullenly walked to the Town Square to stand with the other Fourteens. The Mayor did his dull speech about the nature of the Games and blah, blah, blah. Hurry up and get on with it already, thought Hecate.
After the speech, the Representative from the Capitol jumped around onstage saying his own.
"And may the odds ever be in your favor!"
With that the rep shoved his bony fingers in the female reaping ball.
"Sarah Ankh"
A small 13 year-old stepped out of the crowd and onto the stage. The rep shook her hand and then turned his attention the male reaping ball.
"Marcus Lloyd"
The boy next to Hecate stepped out and onto the stage. As the two unfortunates were lead into the Justice Building Hecate couldn't help but think, Better them than me.
He quickly rebuked himself for the thought and headed home, wondering if either of those two would come home.
Probably not.
A/N: Hope you liked it, sorry if I screwed up the order of the reaping. Please Review.
