Chapter one

The game and the prize

Okay, just one more hit and we're in the championships! I shouted in my head.

The name's Reggie Hopkins, a top of the line baseball player.

Well, I was back in Hawk Creek, now I live in Greendale Valley.

I still am a great baseball player, just not as good as I was.

Anyway, we only have one more hit to win!

I spat on the ground ready for the pitch.

Arms tight around the bat, tongue stuck out, ready to nail it.

First pitch, fail! Second pitch, fail!

C'mon, you can do it, the team's counting on you, don't blow it!

Third pitch and it's out of the park! We win!

The team cheered as the opposite coach shouted angrily.

All the way home I shouted, "We win! We win!"

Later at home, we all sat around the couch as happy as clams.

Then dad said, "I got you a present for winning!"

He then handed me a suitcase.

And when I opened the lid, I gasped.
