The Eyes of the Lion

By Bunnisteffi

Through the eyes of the Lion's prey;

Alabaster pale

A mane of bronze

Beautiful and perfect

Inhumanly so

The topaz eyes

Deep wells of warm honey

Mesmerizing and dazzling

Breathlessly so

Through the eyes of the Lamb's predator;

Translucent skin

Raven black hair

Vulnerable and frail

An easy catch

The floral scent of her blood

Intoxicating and alluring

Like a prize waved in

Front of him

And the hunt begins;

The prey approaches

Transfixed by the Lion

Smoldered by his gaze

Stumbling forward

Into the path of danger

Unaware

She goes closer

The Lion's fragrance

Pulling her

Into Death's door

Too late it was

For the Lamb was blind

To all but

The Predator's eyes

Of molten gold

She would die

But she did not care

She would give anything

Even her life for the

Dark beauty of the Lion

The Lion pauses in his crouching stance;

His mouth waters

Craving for his Prey's blood

Every waft brought him closer

To madness

But he hesitates

Looking on at the Lamb

He could not kill her

He did not want to

How could he

With the Lamb's innocence

Pure and defenseless

He backs off

Within another second

His stoppers his craving

And instead looks on

With a different light

She saw his eyes shift

Knew that Safety was on her side

Now she frisked forward

With new ease

Predator and prey come cautiously together;

The Lion was careful

For without caution

He could kill the Lamb

Easily with just a touch

Without thought

The Lamb was wary

As she knew little

Of this god-like beast

Whose magnificence made

Her heart run wild

But Time brings both closer

Until prey and predator

Lie close in

Each other's embrace

Both were aware

But neither greatly distressed

Of the very reason why their kind

Were not at peace together

As one was supposed to

Exterminate the other

And the other ought to

Have long bolt away

And so the Lion

Fell in love

With the Lamb

And all this began with the eyes of the Mountain Lion
