I Am Erudite

1.

You know how in school, you are seperated into groups. Like nerds, jocks, preps, drama geeks, etc? That's how I live, in factions: Abnegation, the selfless, Amity, the peacefull, Candor, the honest, Erudite, the smart, and Dauntless the brave. I live in Abnegation. My father is part of the government, along with our leader, Marcus Eaton.

We have two important days when we turn sixteen: the aptitude tests, which will help us choose which faction, and the Choosing Ceremony, when we will decide which faction we will live in. Then, we will go through a series of training and if we make it, then we become part of that faction. Don't, and you become faction-less.

The day of the aptitude tests, I make breakfast for my mother, father, and sister, Beatrice. After we all eat, we go to school.

Once we get to school, we have half classes, and then we have our tests. The classes go by in a breeze. Then, all of the faction children sit down and wait. My name is called, along with my friend named Robert Black. I walk into room 6, where a Dauntless woman is administrating it.

"Hello. My name is Tori. I will be administrating your test. Sit down right here and I will put the headset thingies on and then the tests will start," the woman says.

I sit down at a seat that looks like is was stolen from a dentist's office. Tori puts the bands on her head then on mine. She looks at a computer screen and gives me a glass of some sort of liquid. I drink it.

I blink... and suddenly I'm back in the lunch room again. There are two baskets and one has cheese, the other a knife.

"Choose!" booms a woman's voice.

"Ok," I say, and I pick up the cheese.

Suddenly, a black dog appears. He looks at me, then runs at full speed towards me. I out my hand out, and the dog takes the cheese.

A little girl appears, and she looks at the dog. "Puppy!" she says. She looks at me. "Can I play with your doggy?"

"No! Don't! This dog is very observant! It can smell your fear!" I say.

"But I'm not afraid!" says the girl. "The doggie is adorable!"

"Not until you get close to it!" I say. "Here, you know what, come with me!"

The little girl walks towards me.

"Watch me," I say.

I lay down on the floor. The dog licks my face. The little girl giggles and does the same thing. The dog goes over to her and licks her.

I close my eyes, and then I'm on the bus. I see a man sitting down and he is reading the newspaper. There is a man on it, and it says BIG MURDER ON THE LOOSE.

"Do you know who this is?" asks the man.

"No!" I say.

The man stands up. I still can't see his face.

"You could save me! Do you know who this is?" the man asks again.

"No," I say.

I close my eyes, and I'm back in the test room.

"Congratulations! You have a result of... Erudite!" Tori says. "Exit now!"

I leave the room. All I can think about is how my test result is Erudite! I don't even realize that when Beatrice gets called, she doesn't come back.
