My name is Kate. I just moved. I love everything, from sports to art. I am a miraculous heroine named Tigress. Today, I was talking with my best friends, Adrien, Nino, Alya and Marinette, when Chloe came up to us. "Hello, dorks, Adrikins, Kate." I scoffed. "Really? Is that all you came to tell us?" Chloe and I were on common ground, but I didn't like her calling my friends "dorks". "Of course not," Chloe said, glaring at me. "Adrikins, Kate, I need your help." I smiled. "Wow! You need our help?" I asked sarcastically. "Yes, and you need to do this quick. My birthday's tomorrow, remember?" I almost facepalmed. "Of course!" I said, plastering on a fake smile. Her birthday was February 21st, and mine was the 28th. With a small age difference, we decided to help with each other's birthday, whether it's parties or just get togethers. "Good. I'm having a party at the Country club, and I need tons of help. That's why Adrien needs to help too." I smiled for real. "Sure thing, Chlo. Glad to help." Adrien said. She left. Then I remembered: I had to give a presentation on my role model by Friday! Nino seemed to read my mind. "Anyone else forget about the role model presentation?" I raised my hand. I smiled then. I knew who my presentation would be on.
The next day was Chloe's party. Adrien and I had helped her set up, and you gotta admit, this party rocked. I went home to get to work on my project, and by 9:00 pm, it was ready. By then I was really tired so I turned in for the night. On Friday I woke up feeling energized. I grabbed my posterboard and kissed Dad goodbye then left for school. When I got there, I looked at the schedule and realized I would be going right after Adrien. He was second to last, making me the last one. Great. I waited...
"He's a great guy, of course..."
...And waited...
"Chat is silly but dedicated..."
...And waited...
"That's why I chose Ladybug as my role model."
Until it was finally my turn. I got up. "Today, I will be doing a presentation on my mom. She is a great role model." I said. About halfway through the presentation, my vision got cloudy, my eyes watered and my voice started breaking. Tears dripped down my cheeks, and I put my poster down and ran out crying. I saw my friends (and Chloe) race after me, right before I put my head in my hands and sobbed.
"Kate, what's wrong? You were doing great out there!" Adrien asked. "Yeah, girl, you were awesome! What happened?" I heard Alya say. I pulled the gang to a nearby empty hallway, where I sniffed. "Well, I've never told anyone, but..." I said, still wobbly. "My mom...she's...not here anymore. She was gone for about 4 years, and I just couldn't talk about her without..." I broke into tears again. Adrien patted me on the shoulder. "I know the feeling. My mom is gone too, and I think of her every day." I still cried. "But, I just moved, and it's hard, with a new school and my dad has a new job and... I just can't take it!" I said, almost screaming. Marinette looked sad. "Kate, I can't relate to that, but if it bothers you this much, we need to fix this." Adrien looked at me empathetically, Mari smiled a comforting smile, Alya did the same, and Chloe... well, she was speechless. The others patted my back, and I got up and they did the same. "Let's do this."
Author's Note: I was told that maybe my characters need to be more relatable. As an aspiring author, fanfics aren't my best works. ;) I need YOUR feedback. I think this is one of my more emotional stories, so don't forget to review! Bug Out! (Or Cat-ch ya later!) :)
