Sesshomaru sauntered into the small, run down village. Any other day, he wouldn't have stepped foot into it, unless to destroy it, but today was special,

today he had to pick something up. His long hair flowed and snapped in the wind, he held himself up almost arrogantly. A little black imp trailed closely

by his feet, and a boy, now almost a man, walked slightly behind him. Sesshomaru's head barley turned when a well developed girl landed a well

deserved punch on a stupid looking boy. Her long, raven black tresses cascaded down her back and her brown eyes held a gentle, yet tough look. He

wouldn't have recognized her if not for her scent, it was so familiar...

FLASHBACK:

"You knew this would happen!" An enraged Sesshomaru yelled at his mother. "You knew she would die, and I wouldn't be able to save her..." his voice

trailed off as he looked at a lifeless Rin. He's so like his father. His mother thought to herself. She Winced as Jaken let out an ear piercing wail.

Kohaku remained silent. Sighing, she put a large necklace around Rin's neck. Inu no Tasho had given it to her, and she was sad to part with it, but, for

her son, it was worth it. Rin blinked, then sat up.

"Rin." Sesshomaru said sharply. "Are you alright?"

"Yes" she said and smiled. Right then and there, Sesshomaru made a promise to himself: never again will I selfishly lead her into danger, just for my own

personal gain. Never again will I let her die, unable to help, and never, never again will I need to fight the dead and beg help from my mother. I WILL

protect my own. He turned on his heel and walked out, and Jaken, Rin, and Kohaku followed.
