Sorry, this was a little bit rushed because I wanted to keep on schedule for the makoharu festival- hopefully I'll be able to take more time with future fanfics ^-^"
"They really are beautiful, aren't they?" Makoto murmured almost as a side thought as Haruka frowned at him.
"What?"
"Your eyes~ they're a really beautiful shade of blue." The brunet stared at his friend with a thoughtful expression. Haruka felt his face heat up as his eyes dropped. He was surprised by the compliment, and an unfamiliar feeling spread in his chest.
Makoto sat across the kitchen table from Haruka as they ate breakfast - silently before his sudden remark. He hadn't thought anything of what he said, but his raven-haired friend's crimson face made him wonder if he said something wrong.
"Ah, sorry, Ha-"
"Th-thanks." Haruka forced out as he lifted his eyes to Makoto's.
The larger teens mouth hung slightly open as the half formed name was forgotten. All thought left as his eyes met the azure ones of Haru, who looked up at him with hooded eyes and a blush reaching his ears - except one thought.
C-cute~
Makoto felt a slight blush tinge his cheeks as he let loose his signature smile. His eyes flickered to the clock and his eyes widened in alarm.
"We're gonna be late, Haru-chan!"
Haruka simply shrugged, his former blush slowly dissipating. The two placed their dishes on the counted and hurriedly - at least on Makoto's part - left for school.
"Later, Mako-chan, Haru-chan!" Nagisa called as he chased after Rei.
"Bye, Nagisa-chan!" Makoto replied as he offered a hand to Haruka as the raven-haired boy swam to the pools edge.
It was the same as always, but as Haruka grasped his hand, Makoto felt his face redden. Luckily, Haru wasn't looking at him. Instead his eyes remained on the ground as he stepped on to dry land.
"Want to stop and get ice cream on the way home?" Makoto asked as he and Haru changed.
"Sure." the other said without raising his eyes from the ground. Makoto wondered if there was something was wrong, but decided it best not to voice his worries.
"Let's go, then."
"Nnh." Haruka nodded as they both left the changing room and the school with still dripping hair.
The sky was already dark by the time they were on the street and the two friends walked in a silence halfway to awkward. As their hands brushed, Haruka shivered slightly and his face became tomato red.
Makoto's eyes widened as he watched his smaller friend. What's with that reaction? It's too cute~ Maybe if I just…
The brunet's hand slid into the more slender one next to him and he wrapped his fingers around the hand tightly.
Haruka froze before turning his eyes up to Makoto, who stared back at him with a tender expression and a small smile. His eyes immediately shot back down, but he gently held on to the larger hand.
"~yours too." Haru mumbled.
"What?" Makoto asked with a slightly puzzled expression.
"Your eyes are nice too."
The brunet's eyes widened as a grin spread across his face. With a twinkle in his emerald eyes, Makoto pulled Haruka into an embrace.
"Thank you, Haru-chan."
"D-drop the -chan already."
